ROUND ROCK, Texas -- Gwinnett County residents Dana Marsal and Tammy Nelson each had a hand in a pair of touchdowns to help the Atlanta Ravens to the Independent Women's Football League championship Saturday.
The Ravens defeated the California Quake 24-22 to win the championship and finish the season 11-0.
Marsal threw a touchdown to give the Ravens their first lead of the game and Nelson's run put the game away.
The title is the second for the franchise that is owned by David Irons Sr., and was formerly called the Xplosion. The team is coached by Mareno Philyaw and plays its home games at Tara Stadium in Jonesboro. It last won the world crown in 2006.
A good portion of the Ravens' roster features players from Gwinnett County. In addition to Marsal and Nelson, Stacey Lewis, Kristal Holmes, Jessie Locklear, Ashlie Brown, Benita Williams, Descente Washington, Andrea Sipe, Yvette Simmons and Cassandra Strachan are also from Gwinnett.
