DULUTH — City officials are accepting applications for Duluth’s fourth Learn, Engage, Advance Duluth Academy, known as L.E.A.D.
The program gives residents an opportunity to learn about government operations, services and functions, as well as interace with elected officials and staffers. “Class participants are afforded the opportunity to ask questions and gain a better understanding of Duluth government and their role in local government,” a press release said. For many, the program is a first step to becoming involved in the government and an avenue to learn about board and committees residents can serve on. “The citizens and business leaders who participate are empowered to create insightful solutions to important community issues and needs,” the release said. “ In addition, the program sparks interest in local issues, presents information about important questions facing the city, provides an avenue for residents to help plan the community’s future, and gives citizens hands-on experience in city government operations.” The six-week program begins Sept. 20. Participants will meet from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays through Oct. 25. Applications are due by Aug. 24. They are available online at www.duluthga.net or can be pciked up at City Hall.
