Dacula paves way for road widening

DACULA -- City Administrator Jim Osborn received Mayor Jimmy Wilbanks' and City Council's approval to proceed with a road-widening project on Second Avenue near Dacula Road.

Once the road is widened, it will be converted to a two-way street. Following Thursday's vote, construction bids will be solicited by the city. The project is expected to cost about $125,000, all of which will come from SPLOST funds.

Council members also approved a bid of $4,140 to seal the City Hall parking lot.

Millage rate raised in July

During a special-called council meeting held July 12, council members voted to raise the city's millage rate from 4.67 mills to 5.128. Even with the increase, said the mayor, the city will collect about $22,000 less next year than this year, due to decreased property tax values.
