PREP ROUNDUP: Providence wraps up Region 5-A championship

LILBURN — Providence defeated Mount Pisgah 9-4 on Thursday in the final game of the regular season to wrap up the Region 5-A championship.

Alan Skinner picked up the win for the Stars (18-8, 14-2), going five innings and allowing six hits and three earned runs and striking out four. Josh Carter pitched two strong innings in relief, allowing one hit.

Christin Stewart led the offense with a home run and stolen base. Steven Slaughter added an RBI hit and a walk and Erich Stahl went 1-for-2.


GAC 6, Westminster 2

NORCROSS — Greater Atlanta Christian finished the season with a 6-2 win over Westminster on Thursday.

Will Parker went 2-for-3 for the Spartans (16-10, 9-6), while Patrick Schultz and Greg Burland each went 1-for-3 with two RBIs. Patrick Stone (3-1) picked up the win on the mount, allowing three hits.

Wesleyan 5, Fellowship 1

ROSWELL — Wesleyan locked up the No. 2 seed in the region with a 5-1 victory over Fellowship on Thursday.

Joseph Sheffield collected three hits, Drew Widner had two hits and Mason Colquitt added a home run.

Jamie Stark was the winning pitcher, going four innings and allowing one run. Sheldon Connor pitched three innings and allowed one hit for the Wolves (18-7, 12-3).

Mill Creek 5, Columbus 3

CARROLLTON — Chip Fleming tossed a complete game in Mill Creek’s 5-3 win over Columbus at the University of West Georgia.

Fleming (5-2) pitched seven innings, allowing three runs, seven hits and struck out five.

Chandler Boyd led the Hawks’ (19-6) offense, going 3-for-4 with an RBI. Tim Hernandez was 1-for-3 with two RBIs, Casey Parham was 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run and Aryan Rodriquez had a double.

White County 12, Lanier 2

CLEVELAND — Lanier wrapped up its inaugural season with a 12-2 loss to White County on Thursday. T.J. Richardson and Trenton Little each went 1-for-2 with an RBI for the Longhorns (4-21, 4-20).


Wesleyan 3, Whitfield 0

MABLETON — Wesleyan avenged its regular season loss to Whitfield Academy on Thursday. The Wolves defeated Whitfield 3-0 in the quaterfinals of the Class A playoffs.

Wesleyan got wins from Norman Chang and Jeffrey Chang and No. 1 and No. 2 singles. Andrew Dorman and Zach Taylor won at No. 2 doubles.


Norcross 3, Lassiter 1

MARIETTA — Norcross got wins from its doubles teams to beat Lassiter 3-1 in the quarterfinals of the Class AAAAA playoffs on Thursday.

Cameryn Massey and Stacy Lackey won at No. 1 doubles and Lindsay Holmes and Maria Lackey at No. 2 doubles. Cameron Williams won at No. 1 singles. Nicole Northrup lost a hard fought match at No. 2 singles for the Blue Devils (16-5).


Collins Hill 13, Duluth 2

SUWANEE — Collins Hill had eight different players score goals in its 13-2 win over Duluth on Thursday.

The Eagles (7-9, 5-2) got two goals from Jake Star, Zac Kennedy, Connor Pittman, Tyler Agee and Connor Boston. Kyle Burke, Michael Williams and Abe Heller each scored one goal.

Mill Creek 16, Parkview 0

HOSCHTON — Nick Kozlowski scored four goals to lead Mill Creek past Parkview 16-0 on Thursday. The Hawks (12-5) also got two goals each from David Bryan, Alec Bussink and Bretty Bailey.

Lassiter 11, Peachtree Ridge 8

MARIETTA — Michael Ruttcorn and Tyler Botts each scored three goals, but Peachtree Ridge still lost to Lassiter 11-8 on Thursday.

Steven Lee added a goal and two assists, Jacob Lee scored one goal and Greg Rose had 13 saves for the Lions (14-4).

McIntosh 10, Wesleyan 3

PEACHTREE CITY — Connor Breslin, Collin Stone and Michael Jacobson each had a goal in Wesleyan’s 10-3 loss to McIntosh on Thursday.


Mill Creek 9, Parkview 7

HOSCHTON — Mill Creek got four goals from Alexis Ordini in its 9-7 win over Parkview on Thursday.

Mackenzie Sagioli had two goals and Tyler Rediger, Jessica Reese and Emily Hallberg each scored one goal for the Hawks (15-2).
