GWINNETT GAB: Bestselling author to visit Gwinnett

LAWRENCEVILLE — Gwinnett County Public Library and the Lawrenceville Female Seminary are hosting a discussion and book signing at 3 p.m. Sunday with bestselling author Andrew F. Smith.

Smith, a Civil War history and culinary arts expert, will discuss his new book, “Starving in the South: How the North Won the Civil War.” In the book, Smith takes a unique look at how food affected the war from its beginning at Fort Sumter in 1861 to Gen. Robert E. Lee’s surrender at Appomattox four years later.

This library event will take place at the Lawrenceville Female Seminary at 455 S. Perry St. in Lawrenceville. It is free and open to the public but seating is limited. Books will be available for purchase at the event.

Talent and Gong Show to benefit Relay For Life

LAWRENCEVILLE — A Talent and Gong Show sponsored by Gwinnett County special needs bus drivers will benefit Relay For Life of Gwinnett.

The event is scheduled from 6 to 9 p.m. in the Central Gwinnett High School theater. Central Gwinnett is located at 564 W. Crogan St., Lawrenceville.

Admission is $5, and all proceeds benefit the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life.

Mill Creek drama students direct one-act plays

HOSCHTON — The Mill Creek High School theater department will host “A Night of One-Acts” Friday and Saturday.

The plays are directed by Mill Creek senior drama students with no assistance from the teachers. Each performance features four one-act plays, each of which last for about 30 minutes. This year’s shows include “Beast of the Baskervilles,” directed by Chelsea Braden; “Fourteen Lines,” directed by Alyssa D’Addieco; “The Girl in the Mirror,” directed by Becca DelPlato; and “Dinner with the MacGuffins,” directed by Laura Roberts.

Shows begin at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Tickets can be purchased online at www.seatyourself.biz/Millcreekdrama for $5, in advance from theater students for $6 or at the door for $8.

Mill Creek High School is located at 4400 Braselton Highway, Hoschton.
