NORFOLK, Va. — Two runs in the top of the 11th were just enough for the Gwinnett Braves to hang on for a 7-5 win over Norfolk.
Jose Constanza grounded out with runners on second and third to score the go-ahead run. Jordan Schafer who batted in the No. 2 spot, finished the day going 3-for-5 with a double, a run scored and an RBI. Mauro Gomez had three hits in a 3-for-5 game with a double and an RBI.
On the mound it was another hard-luck day for starter Todd Redmond who tossed 52⁄3 innings, allowing two runs off nine hits and striking out seven.
Jose Lugo came on in relief and didn’t allow a run in his one inning to get his first win of the season. Juan Abreu earned his first save with a scoreless 11th.
The G-Braves complete their four-game series in Norfolk today at 7:15 p.m. with right-hander Jacob Thompson (0-0, 8.59 ERA) getting the start against Mike Ballard (1-1, 3.00 ERA)
