NORFOLK, Va. — The Gwinnett Braves defeated the Norfolk Tides on Tuesday night 10-1 in the opening game of a four game series at Harbor Park.
Rodrigo Lopez (3-0) pitched seven strong innings, allowing six hits, one run and one walk, while striking out four. With Tuesday’s win, he moves to a perfect 3-0 on the season and is now tied for the most wins in the IL. The Gwinnett Braves (7-5) are now in sole possession of second place, two games behind International League South division leader Durham (9-4). Gwinnett took the lead for good after three straight singles by the G-Braves to lead off the top of the fourth inning. Joe Mather hit a three run homer to left field off of Tides starter Ryan Drese to open up the game for Gwinnett 5-0. After Lopez, Juan Abreu finished the game, allowing one hit over the final two innings. At the plate, all nine starting hitters for the G-Braves reached base Tuesday, including five G-Braves who had multi-hit games. Mather went 2-for-5 with three RBIs, Stefan Gartrell went 2-for-5, with a double, two runs scored and an RBI off his solo home run. First baseman Mauro Gomez went 2-for-4 with an RBI, a walk and three runs scored, Diory Hernandez went 2-for-4 with an RBI and Jose Constanza who went 2-for-6 with two runs and a stolen base.More like this story
