DURHAM — For his second consecutive outing, Todd Redmond looked sharp.

And for the second consecutive outing, Todd Redmond took the loss.

The Gwinnett Braves’ right-hander pitched seven innings, allowing one run off just two hits while striking out six but the G-Braves bats were silent in a 1-0 loss to open a four game series at Durham.

Jordan Schafer kept his on-base streak alive in a 1-for-3 night with a walk, but was thrown out stealing in the second inning.

The G-Braves left five runners on base and went 0-for-2 with runners in scoring position.

Durham starter Alexander Torres stayed perfect on the season, pitching a scoreless 51⁄3 innings, striking out eight and allowing just three hits to pick up his first win.

The Bulls scored the game’s only run in the fifth when Robinson Chirinos scored on a J.J. Frumaniak ground out.

Boscan back,

Asencio called up

Jair Jurrjens’ return to the Atlanta pitching rotation in Game 2 of the Braves doubleheader with the Mets sparked a flury of action between Gwinnett and Atlanta.

Catcher J.C. Boscan, up with the Braves since Jurrjens began his stint on the disabled list, returned to the G-Braves and was in Saturday’s lineup. Also joining Gwinnett was former Charlotte Knights’ outfielder Stefan Gartrell, who the Braves claimed off waivers from the White Sox. Gartrell comes to Gwinnett hitting .304 with four doubles, three RBIs and a home run in seven games with Charlotte.

Jurrjens was officially removed from the roster and releiver Jairo Asencio was called up to join the Braves’ bullpen. Peter Moylan was placed on the disabled list with a sore back to make room for the G-Braves closer. Catcher Matt Kennelly and outfielder Willie Cabrera head to Class AA Mississippi to make room for Boscan and Gartrell.

Boscan had a hit in his return to the Gwinnett Braves after a week on the bench with the Altanta Braves and Gartrell added a hit and walk in a 1-for-3 night in his first G-Braves game.
