SUWANEE — A section of Northolt Parkway closed for the construction of the McGinnis Ferry Road extension is expected to reopen today.
The section, from Burnett Road to Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road, will reopen by 10 a.m., if weather permits, transportation officials said. “Northolt was closed so the grade of the roadway could be lowered by four feet. This improved sight distance drivers can see and therefore improved safety for Northolt and Burnett Road,” said DOT District Construction Engineer Randall Davis. “We are doing some finish (Wednesday) today and will restripe it (this) morning.” For the 2.67 mile extension of McGinnis Ferry across Interstate 85 to Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road, crews are working this week to weld steel deck pans into place between the bridge beams. As a precaution, officials said the interstate lane under the weld area will be closed to traffic as the work occurs overnight. The $20.4 million stimulus-funded project is 64 percent complete and set to be finished by the end of September, DOT officials said.More like this story
