Tracy & Hepburn: The Definitive Collection (NR)
Movies: 3 1/2 stars out of 4
Discs: 3 1/2 stars out of 4
In addition to making nine movies together, Spencer Tracy and Katherine Hepburn were also decades-long off-screen lovers which, because he was married and a devoted Catholic, caused problems and made for great tabloid copy. Tracy flatly refused to divorce his wife, which must have stung like a double-edged sword for the liberated and freewheeling Hepburn, all explored in great detail in the bonus documentary. The 10-disc set includes seven titles which were available separately and the two previously unavailable (on disc) "Sea of Grass" and "Keeper of the Flame."
Technical specs: aspect ratios: mixed Widescreen and Full Screen, audio: English (mixed original mono, remixed mono, some rechanneled stereo), subtitles: English.
Special features include:
* Feature-length 1986 Emmy Award-winning documentary
* Vintage shorts and cartoons
* "Desk Set" commentary and newsreel
* "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner" introductions
(Warner Brothers, $59.98)
