Helen Holbrook Echols, age 67, of Lawrenceville, Georgia, entered into rest on Saturday, April 9, 2011, after a gallant fight to cancer. She is survived by her two devoted daughters, Deborah Kitchens Turner and Angie Wages; granddaughter, Lauren Wages; two great granddaughters, Madelyn Wages and Kayla Babb; two sisters, Elise & Ray Smith and Edna Dixon; sister-in-law, Linda Holbrook all of Lawrenceville, GA; numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of friends. She was preceded in death by her husband of 28 years, Clifford "Tip" Echols, and a brother, Bobby Holbrook. Helen Holbrook Echols was born in Duluth, Georgia on September 30, 1943, to Ruby Lee Long Holbrook and Julius Virgil Holbrook. She attended the old Lawrenceville High School and retired from Gwinnett County Government as an Animal Control Representative, the first female Correctional Officer and Records Manager with the Gwinnett County Police Department after 25 years of service. She loved to cook, garden and travel. Her greatest joy in life was her family, especially her "girls." She will be greatly missed by her beloved family and friends. The Service Celebrating the Life of Helen Holbrook Echols will be held Tuesday, April 12, 2011, at 5:00 P.M. at Tom M. Wages Lawrenceville Chapel with Ray Smith, Helen's brother-in-law officiating. The family will receive friends on Monday and Tuesday after 11:00 A.M. at the funeral home till 8:00 P.M. in the evenings.
