PREP ROUNDUP: Archer's Jones hits walk-off HR to beat Berkmar

LAWRENCEVILLE — Archer scored eight runs in the bottom of the seventh, including a walk-off grand slam by Jay Jones to beat Berkmar 11-8 on Monday.

It was the first Region 8-AAAAA victory in school history for Archer (3-15, 1-8).

Jones was 2-for-4, while Deondre Singleton went 3-for-3 with three runs, Brendan Fowler was 3-for-4 with three RBIs. Tanner Strickland was the winning pitcher.


Collins Hill 7, Mountain View 5

SUWANEE — Brandon McKeen hit a three-run homer in the sixth inning to lift Collins Hill to a 7-5 win over Mountain View on Monday.

Nate Williams went 2-for-3, Wayne Wages and Charlie Padilla went 1-for-2 for the Eagles (9-9, 6-5). Wages got the start on the mound, allowing five runs, six hits and striking out six. Cameron Jones picked up the win, while Williams got the save.

Mountain View’s (8-11, 2-9) Beau Blair was 2-for-3 with a grand slam and four RBIs.

Norcross 3, Peachtree Ridge 2

NORCROSS — Chris Raash pitched a complete game, striking out five as Norcross defeated Peachtree Ridge 3-2 on Monday. Raash was also 2-for-3 with an RBI at the plate, while Tanner Maloof and Will Paschal went 2-for-4 and Adam Greenstein was 2-for-3 for the Blue Devils (10-9, 6-5).

South Gwinnett 5, Grayson 0

LOGANVILLE — Thomas Embry pitched a complete game shutout in South Gwinnett’s 5-0 win over Grayson on Monday.

Embry (5-2) allowed four hits and struck out two. He got plenty of help at the plate as Austin Williams went 3-for-3 with two RBIs, Keith Chaney was 2-for-3 with an RBI and Jake Hauser was 2-for-4. Jamie Suggs and Joe Hillin each had a hit and an RBI for the Comets (11-7, 7-2).

Parkview 16, Dacula 13

LILBURN — Matt Olson (3-2) got the win on the mound and went 3-for-4 with two doubles and four RBIs as the Panthers (14-5, 9-0) stayed atop Region 8-AAAAA with a win over the Falcons.

Edwin Arias was 4-for-5 with four RBIs, including a two-run homer, while Ryan Blanton was 2-for-4 with three RBIs, Jarrett Freeland blasted a two-run homer, Travis Naraine was 2-for-2 with a three-run triple and A.J. Davis had two hits and drove in a run. Brooks Davis closed out the game on the mound to record the save.

Dylan Brown (1-1) got the loss for Dacula, throwing two innings and allowing seven runs and seven hits.

Tyler Jarvis led the Dacula offense by hitting for the cycle and had four RBIs. Michael Barnes went 3-for-4 with four RBIs, Morgan Loyd was 3-for-5, Tyler Crumley went 2-for-4 with an RBI and Tripp Calhoun was 1-for-3 with a two-run homer.

Brookwood 12, Central Gwinnett 9

LAWRENCEVILLE — Clint Carr had a home run and a double and drove in three runs, while Mike Gouge added two hits, including a solo homer, as the Broncos (13-5, 7-2) outslugged the Black Knights in Region 8-AAAAA play Monday.

Trey Martin, Trey Hagey and Zac Rinehart added two hits apiece to back the pitching of Brandon Agar (5-1), who scattered eight hits and three runs, only two earned, over five innings with six strikeouts to get the win for Brookwood.

Luiz Valdes led Central (10-9, 3-6) by going 2-for-5 with a home run and five RBIs. Cody De La Paz went 2-for-5 and Eli Vale was 3-for-3 with two doubles. Dillon Mackkel added a home run.

Walnut Grove 12, Lanier 10

SUGAR HILL — Lanier scored six runs in the seventh inning, but couldn’t complete the rally in Monday’s 12-10 loss to Walnut Grove.

Michael Diaz went 3-for-5 with two RBIs, Walter Gropp was 3-for-3, Kameron Doster and T.J. Richardson went 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Trenton Little, Taylor Grant, Ted Leahy and Stephen Rusch each had a hit for the Longhorns (2-16, 2-15).

Buford 10, Decatur 2

DECATUR — Georgia Tech signees Josh Heddinger and Jake Burnette combined to shut down the Bulldogs in the Wolves’ Region 6-AA road win Monday.

Heddinger (4-0), gave up three hits and two runs and struck out 11 in 41⁄3 innings, while Burnette pitched the final 22⁄3 innings of no-hit ball with six strikeouts to earn his first save of the season.

The Buford offense also erupted late to break things open, with Jamie Ritchie going 2-for-4, with an RBI, Mason Gentry also 2-for-4 with a three-run homer and Kyler Barrett belting a two-run omer for the Wolves (14-2, 8-0).

GAC 18, Jackson 1

ATLANTA — Patrick Schultz hit a grand slam to power Greater Atlanta Christian past Jackson 18-1 on Monday.

Schultz was 2-for-2 with five RBIs and got the win on the mound (3-0). DaSean Daniels was 2-for-2 with four RBIs for the Spartans (10-6, 4-3).

Hebron 6, Lakeview 1

DACULA — Kevin Burgee struck out 11 to lead Hebron to a 6-1 victory over Lakeview on Monday.

Burgee (4-1) pitched a complete game, allowing one hit and unearned run. Brady Shoppe was 2-for-4 with two RBIs, Justin Bagley was 2-for-2 with two RBIs and Benji Cash had a double for the Lions (18-1, 13-0).

Killian Hill 10, Covenant 0

CUMMING — Kyle Bailey struck out five to pick up the win in Killian Hill’s six-inning 10-0 victory over Covenant on Monday.

Bailey pitched two innings, allowing one walk and went 2-for-3 at the plate. Joey Whitlock was 3-for-3 with an RBI, Clay Watson was 2-for-4 with three RBIs and J.R. Henson was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Killian Hill improved to 10-0.


Providence 9, King’s Ridge 0

ALPHARETTA — Providence had five different players score goals in its 9-0 win over King’s Ridge on Monday.

Brooke Kelly led the way with two goals and three assists, while Brittany Tuttle (one assist) and Kat Slayton and Savannah Flynn each had two goals for the Stars (7-8). Robyn Lowndes had one goal and an assist.

Killian Hill 3, Coventant 1

LILBURN — Kylie Wesley scored two goals and had an assist in Killian Hill’s 3-1 victory over Covenant on Monday.

Paige Williams added a goal and an assist for Killian Hill (10-1).


Duluth 11, Rockdale 6

DULUTH — Ajahna Grosvenor scored four goals to lead Duluth to an 11-6 win over Rockdale on Monday. Ali Cole added two goals and one assist, while Katherine Hsish had two goals for the Wildcats (6-5). Paige Falkowski made six saves in goal.


Brookwood 4, Starr’s Mill 1

SNELLVILLE — Mark Guentert, Matt Jones and Drew Wendel won their singles matches to help Brookwood to a 4-1 over Starr’s Mill on Monday.

David Brown and Brandon Mills won at No. 1 doubles for the Broncos (16-1).

Buford 5, North Hall 0

BUFORD — Colby West, Rob Hunter, and Michael Becker won their singles matches as Buford swept North Hall 5-0 on Monday.

Matthew Gates and Nicholas Becker won at No. 1 doubles, while Alex Turner and Skyler Wilson at No. 2 for the Wolves (13-5).

Lovett 4, Wesleyan 1

NORCROSS — Wesleyan finished the regular season with a 4-1 loss to Lovett on Monday. The Wolves’ (10-5) only win came from Zach Taylor and Andrew Dorman at No. 2 doubles.

Providence 4, Fellowship 1

SUWANEE — Providence defeated Fellowship 4-1 in the Region 5-A tournament on Monday. The Stars (7-8) got singles wins from John North and Mike Moye at No. 1 and No. 3 singles, respectively. Clayton Cheek and Brent Kicklighter won at No. 1 doubles and David Chi and Michael Turner at No. 2 doubles.

Hebron advances to region finals

ATHENS — Hebron won both its matches in the Region 8-A tournament on Monday, defeating Tallulah Falls 3-0 and Lakeview 3-0.

The Lions (10-1) got singles wins from Jerod and Josh Beck against Tallulah Falls, while Kyle Donatucci and Cole Maness won at No. 1 doubles.

Wes Mendoza and Jarod Back won at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, respectively, while Jack Griffin and Paul Stinespring won at No. 2 doubles.


Brookwood 3, Starr’s Mill 2

SNELLVILLE — Leah Pridgeon won at No. 1 singles and Rebecca Norton at No. 3 singles to lift Brookwood past Starr’s Mill 3-2 on Monday. Sheridan Schuster and Liz Slaughter won at No. 2 doubles for the Broncos (12-4, 8-0).

Buford 5, North Hall 0

BUFORD — Buford picked up wins from its singles players Kelley Cohron, Jancy Burge and Kathryn Bradshaw as it defeated North Hall 5-0 on Saturday.

Cortland West and Michelle Hanley won at No. 1 doubles and Abby Hundley and Jessica Thompson at No. 2 doubles for the Wolves (11-7).

Lovett 3, Wesleyan 2

NORCROSS — Megan Kelly won at No. 1 singles and Sally Robertson and Julie Rodriguex at No. 2 doubles in Weselayn’s 3-2 loss to Lovett on Monday.

Providence 5, King’s Ridge 0

SUWANEE — Providence defeated King’s Ridge 5-0 in the first round of the Region 5-A tournament on Monday. The Stars (14-4) got singles wins from Vani Crist, Christy North and Madison DeMoss. Emma Crist and Robin Ferris won at No. 1 doubles, while Alex Schlesener and Abby Mazza won at No. 2 doubles.
