BUFORD — North Gwinnett had a nine-run lead in baseball before it had to hold off a Buford rally to win 12-10 on Saturday.
Brian Woodruff hit a three-run homer in the fourth inning to put the Bulldogs up 9-0. North led 12-5 going into the seventh inning before Buford made a two-out rally. Woodruff was 2-for-4 with four RBIs, Alex Kimble was 3-for-3 with two RBIs, Connor Jenkins went 2-for-3, Seth Bancroff was 1-for-4 with two RBIs and Cole Willoughby was 1-for-2 with two RBIs. Kenny Knudsen (2-1) picked up the win, going 42⁄3 innings, striking out six and allowed five earned runs. Michael Gustafson picked up the save. BASEBALL Wesleyan 7, Holy Innocents’ 6 NORCROSS — Jamie Stark pitched two innings and struck out four to get the win in Wesleyan’s 7-6 victory in eight innings over Holy Innocents’ on Saturday. Alex Thykeson had three hits, Drew Widner had three hits and three RBIs and hit his eighth homer of the season, while Joshua Dobbs added two hits for the Wolves (11-5, 6-1). Providence wins doubleheader LILBURN — Providence’s offense came alive as the Stars defeated Fellowship 14-9 and Greater Atlanta Christian 14-3 on Saturday. The Stars improved to 12-6 overall and 8-0 in the region. Steven Slaughter (four innings, one earned run, three strikeouts, one walk) was the winning pitcher against Fellowship. Tyler Brown was 2-for-4 with three RBIs, Austin Loyd went 3-for-3 with three runs and two RBIs, Christin Stewart was 2-for-4 with a homer and three RBIs and Austin Smith was 2-for-3 with a homer and two RBIs. Patrick Smith picked up the win against GAC, going five innings and allowing three runs, five hits, striking out three and one walk. Smith was 3-for-3 with a homer and two RBIs. Slaughter was 3-for-3 with two RBIs, Alan Skinner was 2-for-3 with a three-run homer, Josh Carter was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and Erich Stahl was 1-for-2 with a home run and two RBIs. BOYS SOCCER Dacula 4, Oglethorpe County 0 DACULA — The Falcons had four different players score goals in their 4-0 victory over Oglethorpe County on Saturday. Dacula (10-4-1) got goals from Josh Legg, Tyler Moore, Twayne Hills and Landon Kinsey. Centennial 2, Providence 1 ROSWELL — Issac Chasten had Providence’s lone goal in the Stars’ 2-1 loss to Centennial on Saturday. GIRLS SOCCER North Gwinnett 3,Hilton Head 0 HILTON HEAD, S.C. — North Gwinnett had three players score goals in the Bulldogs’ 3-0 victory over Hilton Head, the No. 1 team in Class AAA, on Saturday. Laurean Harriman and Caroline Gualdoni each had a goal and an assist. Taylor Burns also had a goal. North Gwinnett (12-3, 3-1) defeated Bluffton, S.C., 13-0 on Thursday. Mill Creek 11, Socastee, S.C. 0 MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — Mill Creek had seven different players score goals in its 11-0 win over Socastee, S.C., on Saturday. Amanda Troy led the way with three goals and Cari Powell and Allison McGinn had two each. Tessa Lukens, Tatum O’Keefe, Torrie Scalera and Madelyn Youngblood each had one goal for the Hawks (12-1).More like this story
