SNELLVILLE — A state association recently announced that a Gwinnett County Public Schools administrator was named the 2011-12 Georgia High School Principal of the Year.
Debbie Dees of Brookwood High won the award from the Georgia Association of Secondary High School Principals. Dees will now represent Georgia in the competition for the National Association of Secondary School Principals/MetLife National Principal of the Year title.
The Principal of the Year recognition program recognizes school administrators who excel in educational leadership, resolving complex problems, developing self and others, and give back to their communities through community service.
Earlier this school year, Dees received the 2010 Jim Puckett Outstanding Educator Award from the Georgia Association of Educational Leaders and the Georgia Association of Secondary School Principals.
Dees has worked in school administration for 10 years, but she began serving Gwinnett students long before that, joining the school system as a teacher and coach at Meadowcreek High. Six years later, she moved to Brookwood, where she served as a teacher, coach and assistant principal. She was named Brookwood’s principal in 2007.
