LAWRENCEVILLE — The Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Department has donated $10K from a charity account to a local humane society in an effort to spay and neuter up to 250 animals at no charge to owners.
In order to qualify for the free pet surgeries, owners must exhibit financial need. The free services will be offered at the Society of Humane Friends of Georgia clinic on Wednesday and Friday mornings, officials said. The donation will provide between 200 and 250 surgeries and will include required annual shots, said Sheriff’s Department spokeswoman Stacey Bourbonnais. The free services coincide with the jail’s Second Chance program, which partners shelter dogs with inmates in an effort to train them and speed adoptions. Rates of $60 for dogs and $40 for cats are available to pet owners who don’t qualify for the free services.More like this story
