LAWRENCEVILLE — Gwinnett police officers and firefighters will square off at Coolray Field on Saturday, as the county’s civil servants battle in softball during their first-ever Public Safety Fall Festival.
Held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the home of the Gwinnett Braves, the festival will include displays and demonstrations from several specialized units from both police and emergency services. SWAT, K-9, Hazardous Materials and Swift Water Rescue teams are all scheduled to participate. “The Fall Festival really celebrates the partnership between GCPD, GCFES and the community as a whole,” police spokesman Officer Jeffery Richter said. “We encourage all Gwinnett County residents to join us for this fun, free event.” Educational opportunities and pet adoptions from the Gwinnett County Animal Shelter will also be there Saturday. The free event will also feature a children’s area with moonwalks and face painting, Richter said. Then, of course, there’s the softball. Police and fire officials will square off in a best-of-three series throughout the day for all to enjoy. “Both agencies are coming together to promote safety and to encourage partnerships with members of the community and public safety professionals,” fire spokesman Capt. Tommy Rutledge said.
