Prep Roundup: Archer tops Parkview in tourney

SNELLVILLE — The Tigers (19-7) got a big day from Alliyah Williams (7-2) to beat the Panthers and advance in the Region 8-AAAAA Tournament on Thursday at Brookwood.

Williams (7-2) threw a complete game, scattering seven hits and two earned runs with two strikeouts, and added a three-run homer — her first of the season — in the third inning.

Alesha Mann also had a big day at the plate by going 3-for-4 and scoring two runs.

Archer next meets either Brookwood or Grayson on Tuesday at 7 p.m.


Wesleyan 15, Holy Innocents’ 0

ATLANTA — CaraMia Tsirigos led the Wesleyan offensive outburst as the Wolves (17-6) opened up play in the Region 5-A tournament by routing the Bears on Thursday at Pace Academy.

The sophomore belted her sixth home run of the season and a double as part of a 3-for-3 day with six RBIs. Courtney O’Leary also homered — her first of the season — and scored a run.

Brittany Mitchell (14-6) went all three innings, giving up just two hits and striking out four.

Wesleyan advances to meet either Galloway or Fellowship Christian today at 4 p.m. at Pace Academy.

Duluth 4, Mountain View 3

LAWRENCEVILLE — Sam Metzler led the Wildcats with two singles, a double and a triple to help Duluth defeat Mountain View 4-3 in eight innings Thursday.

Maggie Kooker was 1-for-3 offensively, and also earned the win after striking out four batters and allowing five hits and one walk for Duluth (13-3, 5-7).

Kaylee Hennelly got the loss after she gave up six hits, an earned run, a walk and struck out four batters for Mountain View. Lindsey Baxter, Brooke Stanford and Kayley Caponi each had two hits for Mountain View.

Collins Hill 13, Norcross 0

NORCROSS — Kayla Floor pitched a complete-game one hitter and struck out nine batters, to shut out Norcross 13-0 on Thursday.

Danielle Patterson was 1-for-1 with a run, Payton Wilson went 1-for-1 with two RBIs, Shelley Sweatt finished 2-for-2 with three RBIs and two runs, Brittany Roley was 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run, while Bri Cason added three RBIs and a run for the Eagles (23-2-1, 11-1).

Buford 17, Therrell 0

BUFORD — Melissa Dickie (10-3) struck out nine batters to help Buford shut out Therrell 17-0 in three innings on Thursday night.

Offensively, Dickie was 2-for-2 with two doubles and two RBIs, while Carly Fullem also went 2-for-2 with a double and four RBIs. Kodi Ricketson added a double and two RBIs, while Lexi Overstreet had a hit and two RBIs for Buford (21-4). Buford will play Westminster at Lovett on Saturday at 9 a.m.

Providence 7, Mt. Pisgah 0

ATLANTA — Kylie Kleinschmidt (15-8) pitched a one hitter, and struck out 11 batters to help Providence shut out Mt. Pisgah 7-0 in eight innings on Thursday.

Offensively Kleinschmidt was 2-for-4 with a two run double in the eighth. MacKenzie Tuttle went 3-4 with a double, Lauren Eggert went 3-for-4 with a two run double, while Jessie Kowalewicz also had a two run double for Providence (19-10-2).

Grayson 5, Brookwood 0

SNELLVILLE — Kanani Cabrales gave up four hits, struck out seven batters in seven innings to help Grayson take a 5-0 win over Brookwood on Thursday.

Shelby Smith went 2-for-2 with two RBIs and two walks, while Taylor Denton, Rachel McElroy, Breanna Ethridge and Savannah Berkhiser each had a hit for Grayson.


Parkview splits pair

SUWANEE — The Panthers (12-20) dropped a 25-15, 25-15 decision to host Collins Hill, but rebounded to beat Shiloh 25-16, 25-21 on Thursday.

Diamond Waldon had a block and a kill, while Riley Weyher added three aces, seven kills and five digs, Katie Carroll had two blocks, handed out 18 assists and added seven digs and Courtney Duck contributed three blocks and a pair of kills.

Woodward tops Wesleyan

NORCROSS — The No. 5 (Class AA/A) Wolves (27-14) fell to Class AAAA’s top-ranked War Eagles in a battle of state-ranked teams at Wesleyan.

Jennifer Miller had 13 digs for Wesleyan, while Maggie Smith added 21 assists and 17 digs and Ansley Maughon contributed eight kills.

Dacula splits

DACULA — Dacula topped Mill Creek 25-18, 26-24 and fell to Greater Atlanta Christian 12-25, 17-25 on Thursday.

Leading scorers for Dacula (16-13) were Kimberly Macintyre with 15 kills, Amanda Preteroti with five kills and a block and Avery Shead with 24 assists.

Collins Hill beats Parkview, Shiloh

SUWANEE — Collins Hill downed Parkview 25-15, 25-15 and Shiloh 25-22, 25-15 on Thursday.

Erin Ensley contributed nine kills and five aces, Kelly Carelson helped with seven kills, three aces, seven digs and a block, while T.C. Cobb had six kills and three blocks for Collins Hill (27-11). Katherine Ahlswede helped with 31 assists, four aces and eight digs, Sarah Stone had 13 digs and five aces, while Liz Topoleski had 12 digs for the Eagles.

Hebron tops two

JEFFERSON — Courtney Bishop had eight kills and Elise Murray contributed seven kills to help Hebron (33-5) defeat Jefferson 25-23, 26-24 and East Jackson 25-13, 25-18 on Thursday.

Providence defeats Central, Newton County

LAWRENCEVILLE — Providence beat Central Gwinnett 25-18, 25-17 and Newton County. 25-13, 25-10 on Thursday night.

Kaitlin Harper had nine aces, 10 kills and a block, Maddie Jones contributed 12 aces and 11 kills and D’Anna Kester helped with 25 sets, two kills and four aces for Providence (20-13).

Central Gwinnett rebounded from its loss to the Stars to beat Newton County 25-21, 25-22. Abbey Bridges led Central with 10 digs, 12 kills and an ace, Nia Hardey contributed seven kills, eight digs and four aces, and Allison Fernandez had five digs.

GAC beats Dacula, Mill Creek

DACULA — Greater Atlanta Christian defeated Dacula 25-12, 25-17 and Mill Creek 25-12, 25-17 on Thursday.

Morgan McKnight had 14 kills, Jess Baker had seven kills, Catherine Chason helped with 20 digs, Emily Parker added 12 digs and Rachel Waldrop had 29 assists for the Spartans (23-12).

Buford defeats North Hall, Johnson

BUFORD — Buford topped North Hall 25-115, 25-18 and beat Johnson 25-9, 25-9 on Thursday.

Maggie Roper had 16 kills and 10 digs, Jenna Falletta had 17 assists and 10 digs, while Liz Darden had 26 digs and Bailey Hicks helped with 14 assists for the Wolves (36-7).

Peachtree Ridge splits

SUWANEE — Peachtree Ridge fell to Northview 14-25, 17-25 but topped Centennial 25-20, 25-18 on Senior Night on Thursday.

Seniors DeLaina Sarden totaled 23 kills and 10 blocks, while Rachel Lee added three digs with four passes for the Lions. Lucy Riddle finished with seven kills, four digs and a block while Kathleen Davis had 23 assists for Peachtree Ridge.

Brookwood takes win over Norcross

SNELLVILLE — Brookwood defeated Norcross 28-26, 28-26, 25-17 on Senior Night on Thursday.

Erin Shelton led with nine kills, three aces and 12 digs, while Katie Kraft added 17 digs, and Bethany Easom contributed 19 assists, two aces and six digs for the Broncos (26-14).

For Norcross (14-11, 4-2) Sara Snider had 11 kills with three aces, Lauren Ranney had 24 assists, Alex DeMercy had nine kills, Katie Janowik totaled five digs, 21⁄2 blocks and two assists while Kamilah Bakari added five kills and three blocks.

Mountain View beats Duluth, East Hall

DULUTH — Mountain View beat Duluth 2-1, and East Hall 2-0 on Thursday to improve to 2-3 in region.
