Fall Fair to benefit children’s shelter

SNELLVILLE — The Family Tree Garden Center is hosting its first Fall Harvest Fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.

The fair will include a midway with games, food, a petting zoo, prizes and other family activities. Proceeds from the game will benefit the Gwinnett Children’s Shelter.

Monroe Area High School’s Future Farmers of America chapter will have a bake sale at the event to raise money for its agriculture trip.

The Family Tree Garden Center is located at 1983 Main St. East in Snellville.

Fun Fest to move to new location

DACULA — Fun Fest 2010, originally scheduled to take place Saturday in the parking lot of the Dacula Ingles, has been moved across the street to 1342 Auburn Road, Dacula.

The festival, featuring hay rides, horse rides, train rides, food, crafts and more, is organized by Judy Burke and her family. The event is designed to raise awareness of the dangers of scalding. Proceeds benefit Shriners Hospital for Children, which operates four burn care facilities nationwide.

The festival will still take place from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Brazilian youth orchestra to play in Winder

WINDER — The Winder Cultural Arts Center will host a Sunday afternoon concert from Pão de Açúcar, a Brazilian youth string orchestra making its second international tour.

The orchestra group has performed more than 420 concerts in South and Central America, as well as the United States. Its first international tour was to the United States in 2007. Currently, there are 40 youths ages 11 to 21 in the orchestra, selected from the more than 300 students in the program.

Pão de Açúcar will be appearing at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Colleen O. Williams Theater in the Winder Cultural Arts Center, 105 E. Athens St., Winder. Tickets are $5 and may be purchased at Winder City Hall or at the door. For credit card purchases, call 770-867-1679.

Registration open for Quinn House gift program

LAWRENCEVILLE — The Quinn House in Lawrenceville is registering children and seniors from low-income families for its annual Christmas gift program.

Parents of children and seniors can call The Quinn House at 770-317-5026 between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Mondays through Thursdays to register. Registration will close on Oct. 15.

Those interested in sponsoring a child or a senior can call The Quinn House during registration hours until Dec. 24.
