DORMAN, S.C. — The Mill Creek boys cross country team finished first in the Cavalier Classic on Saturday at Dorman High School in Spartanburg, S.C.
Austin Boetje led the Hawks by winning the race with a time of 16 minutes. Mill Creek’s Brandon Gaunt was fifth (17:05), Mitch Flammang was ninth (17:11), Eric Westog was 18th (17:27), Thomas Putman was 24th (17:47), Thomas Varnson was 28th (17:52) and Tyler Kvietkus was 68th (18:52).
The girls team finished third of 17 teams at the meet. Lauren Scott finished in 20:00, Rachel Hull in 21:15, Ashlee Varnson in 21:31, Kara Kennedy in 21:59, Maggie Aceto in 22:04, Kelsey Kennedy in 22:05 and Megan Steele in 23:25.
Stars run strong at Aubrae Gunderson Invitational
CONYERS — The Providence Christian Academy cross country team had three runners in the top 10 of the varsity boys blue race at the Aubrae Gunderson Invitational on Saturday.
James Watkins led the way for the Stars, finishing sixth with a time of 17:58. Jonathan Duffie and Stephen Dubbert followed closely in ninth and 10th place.
The trio were a main factor in Providence’s fifth place team finish out of 12 teams.
In the girls race, the Stars placed seventh out of 12 teams. Ellie Thomas finished 11th in 22:40. Twin sisters Rachel and Rebekah Bullard crossed the line next in nearly identical times of 24:07 and 24:08.
Mill Creek’s Boetje, North’s Howell get honors
Mill Creek’s Austin Boetje and North Gwinnett’s Rose Howell were named runners of the week by the county’s coaches on Monday.
Boetje won the Cavalier Classic in Spartanburg, S.C., with a time of 15 minutes, 59 seconds. Howell was 22nd at the Maymont Festival in Richmond, Va., with a time of 19:58.
