LILBURN -- A Stone Mountain motorcyclist died early Friday morning after striking a deer on a Lilburn roadway, police said.
Phillip Bruck, 33, was riding a black Kawasaki ZR1000 southbound on Old Rosser Road when he struck the animal about 12:31 a.m., police said.
The impact, which ejected Bruck and killed the deer, happened between Parkstone Court and Hammersmith Roads. Bruck came to a rest after striking a brick mailbox, said Gwinnett police spokesman Cpl. Edwin Ritter.
A passerby discovered the crash scene and called emergency responders. Bruck died on scene.
Ritter said excessive speed appears to have contributed to the crash. An investigation continues.
