Prostitution sting nets several arrests

A mid-week, undercover sting across several Gwinnett cities turned up a number of alleged prostitutes and yielded five arrests, authorities said Thursday.

After analysis and intelligence gathering led them to focus on Norcross, Lilburn and Duluth, Gwinnett County police vice squads sent plainclothes officers across the area Tuesday, spokesman Cpl. Brian Kelly said.

In addition to a pair of cross-dressing men, investigators also arrested two women in Norcross and another in Duluth.

According to police, 19-year-old Desiree Carter-Mincey invited an undercover officer to her apartment and offered a sexual act in exchange for money. She was booked for prostitution and keeping a place of prostitution.

A 24-year-old woman identified Thursday only as “Pumpkin” was also arrested during the sting in Norcross.

In Duluth, 29-year-old Shaquita Davis of Ellenwood was charged after she agreed to meet an undercover officer at a nearby motel, Kelly said.

Vice squad sweeps like Tuesday’s are common, Kelly said.

“The number of arrests they make will vary depending on the nature of their investigations,” he said. “Some are more long term than others. This particular sweep was conducted in an efficient manner and resulted in a number of quick arrests.”
