LAWRENCEVILLE — A Lawrenceville man is facing felony charges after sheriff’s deputies discovered an illegal liquor still in his home on Wednesday.

Gwinnett County sheriff’s deputies were executing an eviction at 3565 Wessex Court Wednesday afternoon when they discovered “an alcohol manufacturing device and multiple bottles and jugs of liquid that appeared to be liquor,” spokeswoman Stacey Bourbonnais said.

After the Department of Revenue was alerted, the homeowner, 66-year-old Constantin Ana, was arrested and charged with felony possession of untaxed distilled spirits and unlawful manufacturing of alcoholic beverages.

A total of 37 gallons of distilled liquor and 110 gallons of sour mash were uncovered, Bourbonnais said.

Gwinnett County Jail online records — which typically show arrests dating back to around 1990 — showed Ana’s charge for possession of untaxed distilled spirits as just the county’s second such arrest.

Although the one at Ana’s home was the first involving illegally produced alcohol, deputies serving evictions had a string of unintended busts earlier this year. During a two-week span in May, deputies made three separate arrests when they found a varying amount of marijuana at eviction sites.
