PREP ROUNDUP: Stars' Kleinschmidt throws no-hitter

LILBURN — Kylie Kleinschmidt threw a five-inning no-hitter as Providence Christian’s softball team defeated Pinecrest Academy 8-0 on Monday in Region 5-A play.

Kleinschmidt (9-5) struck out 13 batters and also was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs. Jessie Kowalewicz (2-for-3, double, two runs) and Brittany Tuttle (2-for-3, two runs) also had multiple hits.

Katie Beals (1-for-2, double, two RBIs) and MacKenzie Tuttle (1-for-3, RBI, three stolen bases) also contributed for the Stars (13-6-2, 5-1).


Parkview 2, Newton County 1

LILBURN — Sarah McFall’s go-ahead RBI single in the fifth inning helped Parkview to a 2-1 victory over Newton County on Monday.

Amanda Chambers’ effort on the mound was also key. She struck out 11 and allowed just four hits in seven innings of work to improve her record to 10-3.

Corie Terwilliger was 1-for-1 and Mia Marshall was 1-for-2 with a double and a run scored for Parkview (14-6).

Brookwood wins three

SNELLVILLE — Brookwood won its three games Saturday in its own invitational, including two victories on walk-off, eighth-inning hits by Jessica Neidigh.

Neidigh’s extra-inning hit gave the Broncos a 1-0 win over Whitewater, supporting winning pitcher Rachel Hill’s nine strikeouts. Megan Litumbe, Taiylor Rinehart and Danielle Ulloa also had hits in the victory.

Neidigh finished Saturday by going 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs in a 9-8 win over Hillgrove, including a game-winning hit in the eighth inning. Taylor Stercay (3-for-4, RBI), winning pitcher Brandi Jones (3-for-4, two RBIs, double) and Ambree Muller (1-for-2, run) also stood out in that win, while Taylor Sexton, Susan Norris, Jenny Blackwell and Ulloa each had an RBI.

The Broncos won Saturday’s opener 3-0 over West Laurens as Jones was the winning pitcher and added a double. Hill picked up the save, Neidigh was 2-for-3, Jenny Blackwell had an RBI single and Mandy Blackwell had two RBIs in that win.
