LAWRENCEVILLE -- It's a new dawn, a new day and a new life for Lauren Edmunds. And as the new Miss Gwinnett, she's feeling good.
Edmunds, who performed a jazz dance to the Michael Buble song "Feeling Good," was awarded the crown Saturday at the Gwinnett County Fair.
The University of Georgia senior will compete for Miss Georgia for the fourth time, this time representing Gwinnett.
"I'm overjoyed," Edmunds said, shaking after being awarded her crown.
With a platform of breast cancer awareness, bringing light to a disease her mother and grandmother both faced, Edmunds said she was thankful for the opportunity to share her message.
"I'm going to go out and work hard hard. I'm going to save lives," she said.
In Saturday's competition, Edmunds won the swimsuit, evening gown and interview portions of the contest. Lindsay Swann won the talent competition with an opera performance.
Also that night, Emily Smith received her crown as Miss Gwinnett's Outstanding Teen.
