LAWRENCEVILLE — A Duluth man with an outstanding warrant already out for his arrest went to Gwinnett County court for traffic violations Wednesday — with marijuana in his pocket.

Khainan Murdock, 27, was scheduled for an arraignment hearing Thursday on charges of hit and run, driving without a license and giving police false information. Problem is, sheriff’s deputies were waiting for him after they caught wind that he was wanted in Cobb County.

After a call from the Solicitor’s Office informed him of Murdock’s scheduled appearance, Deputy Mike Lawler spotted the wanted man on his way into the courthouse, spokeswoman Stacey Bourbonnais said.

As they were detaining Murdock while they verified the warrant, they discovered a “small bag of marijuana” in his pants pocket, Bourbonnais said.

Murdock was wanted in Cobb County for failure to appear. He was charged with possession of marijuana Wednesday and is being held in Gwinnett County Jail for Cobb County officials.
