Grayson hosts blues, beer festival

GRAYSON — With the University of Georgia football team out of town, local residents can pop open a brewski this weekend at Grayson’s first Blues & Brews Festival.

Patterned after many other local events, like the Decatur Beer Festival, Grayson Blues & Brews will feature more than 150 Craft Beer varieties for sampling. And people who want to watch the game can go to a football arena tent.

The event, scheduled for noon to 4 p.m. Saturday at Grayson City Park, also includes a concert from Southern Rock group Critical Velocity, a cornhole gaming area and door prizes.

Beverages will include the full line of craft beers from Eagle Rock, Sweetwater, Abita, Atlanta Brewing Company, Guinness, Bass and Smithwicks.

Tickets can be purchased in advance for $30 at Grayson businesses Hail Mary Sports Pub and Johnny’s Pizza or at City Hall. Online ticket sales are available at www.GraysonBluesAndBrews.com for $32.50. On event day, admission is $35 at the gate. Ticket sales are limited to 1,000 attendees, so craft beer lovers are strongly encouraged to get their tickets in advance.

The price of admission includes a secure armband, along with a shag bag, commemorative 5 ounce sampling stein and an event T-shirt. Attendees and volunteers must be at least 21 years old.

For security controls, a secured beer park will be constructed at the city park, and off-duty police officers as well as the city’s own private security company will be at the event, a press release said.
