Community showcase set for Saturday

LILBURN — Community recognition, youth resources and multicultural talent will come together Saturday for a showcase called “In The Mix.”

The event, scheduled from 4:30 to 8 p.m. at House of Payne Personal Training in Lilburn, will recognize outstanding youth and community volunteers, provide an opportunity for families to network with organizations and learn about resources available in Gwinnett, and conclude with a presentation of multicultural talents.

The event is free to attend, but donations for the Leaders of Tomorrow Crew will be accepted. The LOT Crew is a mentoring and volunteer community group dedicated to developing the skills necessary to inspire youth to become better leaders.

Schools invited to participate in food drive

LAWRENCEVILLE — The Atlanta Falcons have once again partnered with Publix and the Atlanta Community Food Bank for its annual FalCan Food Drive.

Before the Falcons game against the Tamp Bay Buccaneers on Nov. 7, fans are encouraged to donate canned food items or make a monetary donation to benefit the Atlanta Community Food Bank’s mission to be a resource for underserved communities.

This year, schools are invited to get involved to help fight hunger. The FalCan Food Drive School Challenge is an opportunity for up to 40 schools to collect canned food and nonperishable items between Oct. 4 and 18 for the chance to win Falcons prizes.

Registration is open through Monday. It is limited to the first 40 schools in Georgia to register.

All participating schools will receive a special group ticket offer to the Nov. 7 game and a mention listed on the Atlanta Falcons website,

The three schools that collect the most items, by pound, will be announced Oct. 28. The first-, second- and third-place winners will receive 60, 50 and 25 tickets, respectively, to the Nov. 7 game, as well as special recognition during the game.
