LAWRENCEVILLE -- Traffic has shifted back to its original position on Interstate 85, as work on the McGinnis Ferry extension overhead has run ahead of schedule.

Crews shifted the traffic over the weekend. It had been moved to the outside to give more room for work on a bridge two months ago. Officials had expected that work to take 90 days.

The $20.4 million project includes a 2.67 mile long four-lane divided highway from the current end of McGinnis Ferry Road to Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road, including a bridge over I-85.

The work, being done by E.R. Snell Contractor, is 31 percent complete, according to officials from the Georgia Department of Transportation, and is expected to be complete by Sept. 30, 2011.
