Gwinnett Children’s Shelter golf tourney on Sept. 28

The Gwinnett Children’s Shelter’s 12th Annual Golf Classic will be held Tuesday, Sept. 28 at Hamilton Mill Golf Club. Lunch by Chick-fil-A at Hamilton Mill will precede a noon shotgun start, then it will be followed by a dinner from the Bonefish Grill.

Women’s pro football team to hold tryouts

The Atlanta Explosion, a member of the Independent Women’s Football League, will host an open tryout on Sept. 25 at the Georgia Training Alliance facility at 2160 Breckinridge Road in Lawrenceville. The tryout is from 8 a.m. to noon.

The event, open to women who are 18 or older, will feature injury evaluation and testing in the 40-yard dash, vertical leap, 20-yard shuttle, three-cone drill and bench press. Experience is preferred but not necessary.

Prep Rally to feature Dacula pair

“Gwinnett Prep Rally,” a Gwinnett County high school sports TV program, airs football highlights from Brookwood-Dacula, Norcross-Roswell, South Gwinnett-Shiloh, Buford-Westminster and Duluth-Alpharetta on this week’s show.

Featured athletes include Dacula’s Rocky Capobianco and Marcus Cox as well as Matt Poole from Norcross. The Gwinnett Greats feature takes a look back at the 2005 AAAAA state semifinal game between Brookwood and Dacula.
