Prep Roundup: Archer keeps pace in 8-AAAAA

LAWRENCEVILLE -- Archer remained just a half game back of Region 8-AAAAA leader Parkview on Tuesday with a 6-3 win over Central Gwinnett.

Madison Wyngaert pitched a complete game for the win, allowing three earned runs on six hits with four strikeouts.

Alesha Mann was the offensive catalyst for Archer (12-4-1, 4-1), going 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI. Jenna Graham added a solo home run, while Lynsey Folkerts doubled and scored.


Grayson 6, South 0

LOGANVILLE -- Two Grayson pitchers combined for a one-hitter on Tuesday as the Rams blanked South Gwinnett 6-0 in Region 8-AAAAA.

Breanna Etheridge started and went four innings with one hit and four strikeouts, while Kanani Cabrales pitched the final three innings with five strikeouts.

Cabrales also went 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI for Grayson (9-4-1, 3-3), while Taylor Denton was 2-for-3 with a run. Shelby Downs also was 2-for-3 with an RBI, while Keelyn Hanley had a hit, two walks and a run.

Shiloh 6, Dacula 5

DACULA -- Amber Stillwell went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and a run Tuesday to help Shiloh nip Dacula 6-5 in Region 8-AAAAA.

Tonishia Callaway added a triple and two RBIs for Shiloh (10-10, 3-3), while Amber Johnson was 2-for-4 with a stolen base and two runs.

Jenna Carr, who also had a hit, RBI and a run, was the winning pitcher, going seven innings with one earned run on seven hits with four strikeouts.

Peachtree Ridge 7, Norcross 3

SUWANEE -- Peachtree Ridge starter Sarah Walker allowed one earned run with six strikeouts over seven innings Tuesday to lead the Lions 7-3 over Norcross in Region 7-AAAAA.

Chandler Frisbie had two doubles and three RBIs to spark the offense for the Lions, who improved to 5-4 in the region. Gracie Shelton added a double and an RBI, while Kaitlyn Vincent went 2-for-4.

North 8, Mountain View 2

LAWRENCEVILLE -- North Gwinnett pitcher Morgan White (5-0) went the distance Tuesday, allowing five hits and two runs with four strikeouts as the Bulldogs beat Mountain View 8-2 in Region 7-AAAAA.

Offensive leader for North (13-4, 6-2) was Heather Maddox, who went 2-for-5 with a home run and three RBIs. Alaina Hall went 3-for-3, Cara Blenke finished 2-for-3 with a double and Kelsey Summers added an RBI on two hits.

Sammie Daugherty led Mountain View with two hits, while Brooke Stanford had a double.

Buford 16, Clarkston 0

CLARKSTON -- Three Buford pitchers combined for a no-hitter Tuesday as the Wolves crushed Clarkston 16-0 in three innings in Region 6-AA.

Rebekah Rude (one inning, two strikeouts), Danielle Dlugasch (one inning, two strikeouts) and Rachel Stopper (one innings, three strikeouts) were the pitchers involved.

Taylor Robinson led the offense, going 2-for-3 with four RBIs and two runs, while Rude finished 2-for-3 with and RBI and two runs.

Other contributors for Buford (12-3, 2-0) were Tori Rowland (2-for-3, RBI, run), Brittany Hellemn (2-for-3, RBI, run) and Noah Sudderth (2-for-3, two RBIs, two runs).

Wesleyan 15, King's Ridge 0

NORCROSS -- Courtney O'Leary and CaraMia Tsirigos each had three hits to lead an offensive outburst as the Wolves (6-5, 4-1) run-ruled the Tigers 15-0 in a Region 5-A game at home Tuesday.

O'Leary also scored two runs and drove in three more, while Tsirigos belted her third home run of the season, her third in the last four games.

Landyn Duley also chipped in by going 2-for-2, with two stolen bases and three runs scored, while Sarah Settlage (1-0) threw three shutout innings, giving up just two hits and striking out three.


Norcross knocks off Peachtree Ridge, Meadowcreek

SUWANEE -- Norcross won its first two Area 7-AAAAA matches Tuesday, beating Peachtree Ridge 25-18, 25-18 and Meadowcreek 25-13, 25-17 at North Gwinnett.

Leaders for the Blue Devils (6-4, 2-0) were Ansley Wheaton with 10 digs, six kills and three aces, Lauren Ranney with 31 assists, Alex DeMercy with nine kills, and Katie Janowiak with seven kills and four aces.

North starts area play 2-0

SUWANEE -- North Gwinnett notched a pair of Area 7-AAAAA wins Tuesday, defeating Meadowcreek 25-6, 25-3 and Peachtree Ridge 25-22, 25-11.

Leading North (23-2, 2-0) was Alex Panks with 32 assists and 15 digs. Kelsea Knudsen added 20 kills, while Kristina Stinson finished with 10 kills.

Grayson wins first area match

LAWRENCEVILLE -- Grayson swept Central Gwinnett 25-12, 25-13 Tuesday night in its Area 8-AAAAA opener.

The Rams (11-10, 1-0) also swept Mundy's Mill 25-14, 25-9. Shenise Howard led the attack with 23 assists and four aces, while Kristi Cheesman had 10 kills with Erica Brown adding seven kills.

Central salvaged a split with its 25-21, 25-19 sweep of Mundy's Mill. Abbey Bridges, who had four digs and two kills against Grayson, added four digs, three aces and two kills in the win. Also helping in the win, were Sarah Futch with three digs and Fhantaja Latimore with three kills. Nia Hardy also had four kills in the Grayson match.

Dacula still unbeaten in area play

DACULA -- Dacula improved to 3-0 in Area 8-AAAAA on Tuesday with wins over Archer 25-15, 25-22 and Berkmar 25-9, 25-16.

Leaders for Dacula (10-6 overall) were Jordan Serrer with 20 digs and four aces, Avery Shead with 17 assists, nine kills and six aces and Anna Machovec with seven kills and a block.

Mill Creek splits, Collins Hill wins two

SUWANEE -- Mill Creek opened its Area 7-AAAAA schedule Tuesday, beating Duluth 25-6, 24-26, 25-13 but falling to Collins Hill 14-25, 25-23, 23-25.

Kim Brody led Mill Creek (13-11, 0-2) with 36 kills and seven blocks, while Jordan Rooks had eight digs. Ma'Tia Hughes and Cailey Stevens each served four aces.

Collins Hill completed the sweep by beating Duluth 25-10,25-11. Leaders for the Eagles (14-6, 2-0) were Katherine Ahlswede (41 assists, 10 aces), Kelly Carelson (11 kills, eight digs), Erin Ensley (14 digs, seven kills), Carsen Popelka (six kills), Caitlin Conner (four digs, three kills) and Sara Stone (12 digs).

Brookwood starts area play 1-1

LILBURN -- Brookwood opened its Area 8-AAAAA schedule Tuesday with one win and one loss, sweeping Mountain View 25-13, 25-14 but falling to Parkview in three games 25-17, 23-25, 26-28.

Katie Mallow tallied 10 kills, one block and an ace for the Broncos (16-12, 1-1). Erin Shelton added 10 kills, nine digs and three aces. Bethany Easom finished with 26 assists, five digs and four aces.

Parkview's Katie Carroll totaled 28 assists and 24 digs as the Panthers edged Mountain View 25-8, 23-25, 25-19 for its second win of the night.

Kelly Hayden added 22 digs for the Panthers with Jessica Mann tallying 11 digs and four blocks. Sammi Bosler served seven aces, while Riley Weyher led the team in kills with 14.

Buford wins two

BUFORD -- Jenna Falletta had 23 assists Tuesday in leading Buford to two wins over Lambert 25-20, 25-23 and Clarkston 25-7, 25-6.

Denee Badois added 11 kills for Buford (26-5), while Bailey Hicks served seven aces.

Wesleyan sweeps Galloway and Cross Keys

NORCROSS -- Emily Knauss served 13 aces and Ashley Gentry served eight more on Tuesday in helping Wesleyan sweep Galloway 25-7, 25-15 and Cross Keys 25-8, 25-9.

Catherine Cropper tallied 16 assists for Wesleyan (16-13), while Anna Davis had seven kills, Katie Van Laeke six kills and Natalie Connor five kills.

Hebron gets past Hart Co. and North Oconee

HARTWELL -- Hebron's Elise Murray had 16 kills and nine blocks Tuesday as the Lions (21-3) swept Hart County 25-12, 25-16 and North Oconee 25-16, 25-10.

Maddi Roof added 14 kills with Courtney Bishop finishing with 12 kills and six aces. Eden Murray chipped in with 14 assists with Savannah Blalock adding 12 assists.
