LAWRENCEVILLE — A Lawrenceville teen pleaded guilty this morning to fatally shooting his mother — a Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Department deputy — and two sisters in 2008.
A Gwinnett Superior Court judge sentenced Anthony Terrell Jr., 19, to two life sentences after he admitted to killing his mother, Joy Deleston, and her two daughters, Micaiah, 11, and Jelani, 4, the night of Feb. 28, 2008. District Attorney Danny Porter said Terrell won’t be eligible for parole for at least 30 years. Terrell admitted to all nine counts in his indictment, which included murder, felony murder and aggravated assault charges. Terrell shot the victims in the family’s Lawrenceville home, where police found their bodies after a neighbor reported gunshots. He used his mother’s service weapon, Porter said. Prosecutors believe Terrell flew into a rage after arguing with his mother about a cell phone and a girl that had visited the family home. He later ditched the gun and was taken into custody soon after the slayings. Deleston worked for the Sheriff’s Department for seven years, most recently assigned to the sex offender unit.More like this story
