Dacula softball to host fundraiser Saturday
• The Dacula High School fastpitch softball team will host its annual barbecue, car wash and yard sale on Saturday to benefit the program. The barbecue begins at 10:30 a.m. in the Hebron Baptist Church parking lot, the yard sale begins at 8 a.m. at Wood’s Child Development Center on Dacula Road and the car wash begins at 9 a.m. at the Rite Aid at US Highway 29 and Harbins Road. Lanier Striper Club to host tourney this weekend • The Lanier Striper Club will host its second Fun Fest Fishing Tournament on Saturday at Lake Lanier Islands, giving anglers a chance to compete in an open fishing event with a virtual weigh-in using wireless technology from Samsung and AT&T. Each contestant will be equipped with a measuring board and a Samsung Rugby wireless device to send photos and measurements of their catches. A central coordinator will log the results and send out real-time standings to the competitors. Fishing begins at 7 a.m. Saturday with a $200 per boat charge (limit of four anglers per boat). Former Tech back Burns to speak at North • Joe Burns, a former star running back at Georgia Tech and at Thomas County Central, will be the featured speaker at a Tuesday seminar at North Gwinnett High School. The NCSA Athletic Recruiting event will focus on what it takes to become a collegiate athlete and it will be held in North’s theater at 7 p.m. It is open to athletes, parents and coaches.
