Prep Roundup: North softball gets past Mill Creek

SUWANEE — North Gwinnett took advantage of several Mill Creek defensive miscues and picked up a big Region 7-AAAAA win Tuesday by edging Mill Creek 5-4.

Emily Wood logged the win relief, pitching 21⁄3 innings with two hits. Alaina Hall was the starter and went 42⁄3 innings with four strikeouts.

Lacey Najafi, Alex McDavid and Heather Maddox each went 3-for-4 with an RBI for North (11-4, 4-2) with Maddox delivering the game-winning hit.

Mill Creek (11-2, 5-1) was led by Chandler Griffin, who went 2-for-4 with a double and solo homer. Anyssa Robles added two hits and an RBI, while Erin Raeford went 2-for-3. Lauren Kaczynski (5-1) took the loss, allowing no earned runs in seven innings.

SOFTBALL

Duluth 12, Mountain View 1

DULUTH — Duluth evened its Region 7-AAAAA record at 3-3 on Tuesday by beating Mountain View 12-1 in five innings.

Jeanie Perrucci struck out two and allowed two hits in recording the win for the Wildcats (4-5-1 overall).

Leading hitter for Duluth was Lauren Blanco, who was 2-for-2 with a double and a triple. Casey Nellums also went 2-for-3, while Maggie Kooker, Erin Lipps and Sam Metzler each had a hit.

Meghan Tonneson and Hannah Seagriff each had a hit for Mountian View, while Kaylee Hennelly allowed five earned runs on five hits in 22⁄3 innings in the loss.

Collins Hill 12, Norcross 0

SUWANEE — Collins Hill pitcher Ally LeGette (6-0) allowed just two hits with five strikeouts on Tuesday as the Eagles shut out Norcross 12-0 in four innings in Region 7-AAAAA.

Amber Hulsey led the offense for the Eagles (12-1, 5-1), going 2-for-2 with four RBIs, including a three-run homer, and four runs.

Mckenzie Halstead added two hits with a home run, while Chelsea Littlejohn (triple, two RBIs, two runs) and Ashleigh Simmons (hit, RBI, run) each contributed.

Parkview 5, Archer 4

LAWRENCEVILLE — Parkview’s Sara Coker doubled and scored the go-ahead run in the top of the seventh Tuesday as Parkview held on for a 5-4 win over Archer in Region 8-AAAAA.

Sarah McFall also went 3-for-4 with two RBIs for Parkview (7-4, 3-1), while Mia Marshall doubled and scored. Corrie Terwilliger and Amanda Chambers also each had an RBI, with Chambers recording the win by striking out six in seven innings.

Lynsey Folkerts sparked Archer (8-2, 2-1) on offense with a two-run homer, while Taylor Albritton went 2-for-4 with a run and RBI. Alliyah Williams (5-1) took the loss, giving up five runs on six hits with six strikeouts in seven innings.

Grayson 10, Shiloh 0

LOGANVILLE — Grayson freshman Breanna Ethridge pitched a no-hitter Tuesday, striking out six with one walk in five innings as the Rams blanked Shiloh 10-0 in Region 8-AAAAA.

Taylor Denton led the offense for Grayson (5-4-1, 1-3), going 3-for-4 with two runs, two RBIs and a steal. Shelby Smith added two hits, a run and an RBI, while Cara Rotundo had a hit and a run.

Brookwood 8, Central 0

SNELLVILLE — Jessica Neidigh went 3-for-3 with four runs Tuesday in helping Brookwood to an 8-0 shutout over Central Gwinnett in six innings in Region 8-AAAAA.

Jenny Blackwell added two hits with an RBI and a run for the Broncos (13-4, 3-1), while Mandy Blackwell had a hit and two RBIs.

Brandi Jones (2-for-4, double, RBI), Rachel Rhodes (2-for-3, RBI), Meghan Litumbe (hit, two RBIs), Taylor Stercay (1-for-1) and Susan Norris (hit, RBI) each helped offensively, while Rachel Hill struck out six in recording the win.

Lanier 14, Johnson 0

BUFORD — Lanier’s Meghan Kellett struck out five in four innings with no hits Tuesday as the Longhorns blasted Johnson 14-0 in Region 8-AAA.

Hannah Coursey led the offensive explosion, going 3-for-3 with five RBIs, while Lauren Pettit finished 3-for-3 with two runs and three RBIs.

Other contributors for Lanier (5-9, 3-3) were Holland Coursey (2-for-3, two runs), Kaylee Ramos (two hits, two RBIs), Amberly Hays (double, RBI), Ciera Fackler (hit, RBI), Heather Kellett (hit, two RBIs), Keisha Stone (1-for-2) and Brittney Mosley (hit, two runs).

Buford 15, Avondale 0

BUFORD — Mickala Price and Rebekah Rude combined to throw a no-hitter Tuesday as Buford blanked Avondale 15-0 in three innings in Region 6-AA.

Price started and struck out five in two innings, while Rude struck out two in one inning.

Lanae Hodnett had a double and three RBIs to lead Buford (11-2, 1-0), while Aly Hicks, Chelsie Thomas and Whitney Wolfe each had a hit.

Wesleyan 8, Riverwood 0

ATLANTA — CaraMia Tsirigos went 4-for-4 with two doubles and a home run Tuesday in leading Wesleyan 8-0 over Riverwood in a non-region game.

Caitlin Crabill added two hits with a double and run, while Brittany Mitchell picked up the win with four strikeouts. Wesleyan improved to 4-5.

GAC 12, Decatur 0

DECATUR — Greater Atlanta Christian pounded out 14 hits Tuesday as the Spartans blasted Decatur 12-0 in four innings in Region 6-AA.

Winning pitcher was Sarah Armstrong, who allowed one hit with six strikeouts in four innings. She also had two hits with two runs and two RBIs at the plate.

Other hitters for GAC (7-5, 3-0) were Sierra Lawrence (two hits, two runs, three RBIs), Natalie deLatour (two hits, three runs), Christine Young (two hits, two RBIs), Celine Talley (two hits, RBI, two runs) and Sydney Smartt (two hits, RBI, run).

Peachtree Ridge tops Grayson and Shiloh

LOGANVILLE — DeLaina Sarden tallied 24 kills with four blocks Tuesday in helping Peachtree Ridge (11-7) defeat both Grayson (25-22, 25-23) and Shiloh (25-11, 24-26, 25-16).

Lucy Ridge added 18 kills and five blocks, while Lauren Greene had a good night, going 16-for-16 on serves with two aces. Kathleen Davis also had 36 assists.

GAC defeats Parkview

LILBURN — Greater Atlanta Christian improved to 10-4 on Tuesday with a three-game sweep of Parkview 25-20, 25-21, 25-18.

Leading hitter for the Spartans was Ali Cox with 11 kills with Morgan McKnight and Emma Taylor each adding eight kills. Catherine Chason chipped in with 15 digs and four aces, while Rachel Waldrop dished 35 assists.

Central falls to Riverwood

LAWRENCEVILLE — Central Gwinnett hosted Riverwood on Tuesday and fell in three straight games 25-14, 25-8, 25-7. The Black Knights fell to 2-11.

Brookwood drops two on the road

JOHNS CREEK — Brookwood fell to 10-9 on Tuesday with a pair of hard-fought losses, losing to Johns Creek 25-20, 25-18 and Lassiter 25-19, 25-20.

Wesleyan opens area play with two wins

JOHNS CREEK — Wesleyan opened its Area 7-AA/A schedule Tuesday with two sweeps, topping Mount Pisgah 25-4, 25-9 and Pinecrest Academy 25-22, 25-18.

Grace Leah Baughn led the Wolves (7-9, 2-0) with 13 kills, nine digs and eight assists, while Anna Davis tallied seven kills and five aces.

Alana Broe helped with eight kills with Maggie Smith pacing the attack with 35 assists and four aces.

Providence sweeps Darlington and Tucker

LILBURN — Behind the solid serving of Misty Parker, Providence picked up a pair of wins Tuesday, sweeping Darlington 25-20, 26-24 and Tucker 25-13, 25-17.
