New batch of leaders to graduate Duluth program

DULUTH -- The newest leadership class in Duluth will graduate next week.

An event has been scheduled for Wednesday for the L.E.A.D. Academy, which stands for Learn, Engage, Advance Duluth.

The program offers an avenue for residents to find out about city operations, services and functions, through an interactive learning experience.

Participants in the six-week class, in its third year, were able to interact with council members and staff and were able to ask questions to "gain a better understanding of Duluth government and their role in local government," a press release said.

"This leadership program encouraged citizens to become engaged in government operations and participate by serving on various boards and committees and explore other opportunities in the community and in the city to become involved," the release said. "The citizens and business leaders who participated are now empowered to create insightful solutions to important community issues and needs. In addition, we the program sparked interest in local issues, presented information about important questions facing the city, provided an avenue for residents to help plan the community's future, and gave citizens hands-on experience in city government operations."

A graduation ceremony will be held at 6 p.m. at the Parc at Duluth, located at 3315 Peachtree Industrial Blvd.
