STATE SOFTBALL ROUNDUP: Parkview's playoff run comes to an end

MARIETTA -- Lassiter earned its first trip to the Class AAAAA Elite Eight in three years as the Trojans shut out Parkview 3-0 in the third and deciding game of their best-of-three second-round series on Thursday.

A two-run home run by Jordan Adams in the top of the third inning and an extra run in the seventh, along with a four-hit complete-game shutout by Lassiter ace MacKenzie Kayler was enough to send the Trojans back to Columbus for the first time since they won the state title in 2007.

All three games of the series were won by shutout, with Lassiter winning the first game 10-0 and Parkview taking Game 2 6-0 on Wednesday.

Kayler did her part in the circle as the Lassiter ace shut down Parkview's bats, giving up only four hits in the process.

Errors also helped do in Parkview as the Panthers committed five fielding miscues, including three in the seventh that led to Lassiter's third and final run.

Amanda Chambers went the distance in the circle and took the loss for Parkview, which ends its season at 21-12.

After a scoreless first couple of innings, Lassiter made its move in the top of the third when Rachel Orlandella hit a one-out single and Adams followed that up with a deep blast over the centerfield fence to put the Trojans up 2-0.
