DULUTH -- Police detectives want to hear from former associates of a 73-year-old Texas construction worker whose body was found behind a Duluth hotel last week.
Gwinnett police on Thursday released a photo of the victim, Houston resident Peter Daley, a traveling construction worker who periodically worked in metro Atlanta, and frequently in Gwinnett, officials said.
Specifically, detectives want to hear from former employers or employees of Daley. The murder mystery has been made complex by the vagabond nature of Daley's career, said Gwinnett police spokesman Cpl. Brian Kelly.
Police found Daley's body with significant head trauma last Friday night behind a Residence Inn on Pineland Road. Investigators originally thought the death may have been a falling accident.
An autopsy by the medical examiner's office revealed a single gunshot wound to the back of Daley's head, police said.
Daley was a regular at the extended stay hotel, frequently traveling to the area for his roofing business. He was well-liked by employees and familiar with hotel staff, police said.
The exact motivation behind the slaying is under investigation, but police have said there were no immediate indications of robbery.
There are no known witnesses to the homicide, and no suspects.
Anyone who knew Daley, or who has information concerning his death, is urged to call Gwinnett police detectives at 770-513-5300.
