CHARLES Charles Lee Murdoch, Jr., age 89, of Lilburn, GA, passed away October 16, 2010. He was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Eberhart Murdoch, and is survived by sons, Charles Lee (Chuck) Murdoch, III of Bradenton, FL, Joseph Michael (Mike) Baldesare and his wife, Jeanie, of Lilburn, GA; Grandchildren, Brian Christopher, Charles Adam and Emily Brooks Murdoch, Brooke Leigh Stracener, Kevin Michael and Kimberly Anne Baldesare; and Great Grandchildren, Harrison Tyler, Emma Grace and Ellie Kate Murdoch, and James Braeden Stracener. A decorated veteran wounded in combat while serving in the U.S. Army as a paratrooper, Charlie was a member of The 509th Parachute Infantry Battalion, ‘The First From Above' Operation Torch, November 8, 1942, the first combat jump during the early days of World War II in North Africa. Charlie retired from Firemans Fund as Credit Manager after 40 years of service. He was an active member of the Shrine Organization in the Motor Corp Division and a long time and active member of Mountain Park United Methodist Church where he was known for many years as the Official Greeter. A loving husband, father and grandfather, Charlie enjoyed spending time with his family and watching old movies. A gathering with family and friends will be held Monday, October 18, at 9:30 AM at Horis A. Ward Stone Mountain Chapel, followed by a Memorial Service at 11:00 AM, with Rev. Charles Robinson officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Embracing Hospice, 2160 Fountain Drive, Snellville, GA 30078, in memory of Charles Lee Murdoch, Jr.
