MILTON — Amanda Chambers knocked in the go-ahead run in the sixth inning to help Parkview to a 7-6 win over Milton in Game 3 in the first round of the Class AAAAA playoffs.
The Panthers (20-9, No. 4, Region 8) won the series 2-1 and travel to Lassiter (No. 3, Region 5) for the Sweet 16 on Tuesday.
Parkview, acting as the home team, took the lead in the bottom of the sixth when Chambers hit a sacrifice fly to left field to plate Sarah McFall. Chambers started and pitched five innings, but was credited with a no-decision. Caitlin McClure (6-3) pitched two shutout innings in relief to get the win. She struck out one. McClure also went 3-for-4 at the plate. McFall was also 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs. Katie Block (2-for-4) added an RBI and a double. Sara Coker (2-for-3) scored twice.
Grayson advances over Newton
LOGANVILLE — Grayson easily advanced to the Sweet 16 of the Class AAAAA state playoffs, beating Newton 25-10, 25-13, 25-15 Thursday. The Rams (23-17, No. 2, Area 8) will play North Gwinnett (No. 1, Area 7) Tuesday.
Dallas Hasty had a solid all-around game with nine kills, nine digs, and seven aces. Kristi Cheesman finished with 11 kills and 10 digs. Shenise Howard dished out 17 assists to go with seven kills. Alex Daniel added 13 digs.
Brookwood rolls into Sweet 16
SNELLVILLE — Brookwood made quick work of Stephenson 25-8, 25-5, 25-8 in the first round of the Class AAAAA playoffs Thursday. The Broncos (34-15, No. 1, Area 8) will host Mill Creek (No. 2, Area 7) in the Sweet 16 Tuesday.
Senior Jacqueline Portz led with 11 assists and 11 aces. Senior Katie Mallow added nine kills, while senior Autumn Adams added six kills and eight aces. Bethany Easom finished with 12 assists.
Mill Creek sweeps Campbell
HOSCHTON — Kim Brody and Ma’Tia Hughes each had 11 kills as Mill Creek downed Campbell in three straight games 25-21, 25-12 and 25-23 Thursday.
The Hawks (23-20, No. 2, Area 7) advanced to the second round, where they will travel to Brookwood (No. 1, Area 8) Tuesday.
Collins Hill holds off Newnan
NEWNAN — Collins Hill edged out Newnan 30-28, 25-18, 25-23 in the first round of the Class AAAAA state playoffs Thursday.
The Eagles (30-13, No. 3, Area 7) will play either Shiloh (No. 1, Area 2) Tuesday.
Katherine Ahlswede led Collins Hill with 25 assists, nine kills, six digs, and three aces. Kelly Carelson finished with 11 kills, nine digs, two aces, and two blocks. T.C. Cobb chipped in with five kills and four blocks. Sarah Stone had 23 digs, while Erin Ensley and Liz Topoleski each finished with 10 digs. Caitlin Conner blocked three shots and served two aces. Carsen Popelka had four kills.
Shiloh slips by Dacula
SNELLVILLE — Shiloh needed all five games to beat Dacula 25-13, 24-26, 26-24, 23-25, 15-13 Thursday in the first round of the Class AAAAA playoffs. The Generals (19-17, No. 1, Area 2) will host Collins Hill (No. 3, Area 7) at 5 p.m. Tuesday in the Sweet 16. The Falcons (No. 4, Area 8) end their season with a 20-19 record.
Parkview moves past Luella
LOCUST GROVE — Parkview went down to Henry County and beat Luella 25-19, 25-23, 25-21 in the first round of the Class AAAAA playoffs Thursday.
The Panthers (19-26, No. 3, Area 8) will play at East Coweta (No. 1, Area 4) in the Sweet 16 on Tuesday.
Jessica Mann finished with 11 kills and three aces. Kelly Hayden added two aces and 19 digs. Katie Carroll had 12 digs, 23 assists, and two kills. Courtney Duck chipped in with eight kills.
Peachtree Ridge eliminated by East Coweta
SHARPSBURG — Peachtree Ridge was knocked out of the Class AAAAA playoffs Thursday in the first round by East Coweta 25-12, 25-16, 25-21. The Lions (26-24, No. 4, Region 7) were led by Lucy Riddle’s nine kills, eight digs, and five blocks. DeLania Sarden added four kills and two blocks. Kathleen Davis finished with 10 kills.
East Coweta (No. 1, Area 4) will host Parkview (No. 3, Area 8) in the Sweet 16 Tuesday.
