Earlier this year, the Atlanta Press Club debates revealed few differences in the men seeking Congressman John Linder’s office, since the crowded field heading for the primary were all Republicans.

But last weekend’s debate set the candidates apart, as the GOP’s Rob Woodall squared off against Democrat Doug Heckman.

Sunday’s debate is the only televised event scheduled to determined Linder’s replacement after 18 years in Congress, although there are a number of local events in the coming weeks.

“It is important for voters to see that they have a choice in this election,” Woodall said in a press release. “There are fundamental differences between me and my opponent in this race. I support the FairTax. My opponent opposes it. I support repealing ObamaCare in its entirety. My opponent opposes repeal.”

Upcoming forums include a League of Women Voters event Oct. 21, a United Peachtree Corners Civic Association event Oct. 25, and a Parkview Parent Teacher Student Association meeting Oct. 26. Details will be forthcoming.

Lawrenceville forum tonight

Tonight, Lawrenceville residents will have a chance to talk to the men and women who want to lead the city.

The Lawrenceville Neighborhood Association is hosting a candidate forum at 7 p.m. at the old city hall building.

Gwinnett’s county seat has a mayoral race this November, where Rex Millsaps and Judy Jordan Johnson will once again face each other, along with a contested council race.
