SNELLVILLE — With two wins Wednesday, Brookwood played its way out of the loser’s bracket of the Region 8-AAAAA softball tournament.
The Broncos beat Parkview 4-3 and Archer 10-2 to set up a meeting with Grayson today at 5 p.m. for the region title. If Brookwood wins, the deciding game will start at 7 p.m.
In the first game Wednesday, Ambree Muller’s RBI single scored the go-ahead run in the seventh and Brandi Jones pitched a scoreless seventh to get the save. At the plate, Jones went 2-for-4 with a double. Jessica Neidigh was 1-for-3 with two RBIs and Daniella Ulloa was 2-for-4 with a run scored against Parkview.
Against Archer, Jenny Blackwell and Megan Litumbe each had five RBIs in the 10-run game for Brookwood. Litumbe was a single from the cycle on a 3-for-4 night and Blackwell went 2-for-2 with a run scored. Taiylor Rinehart and Neidigh each scored three runs and Jones took the win from the circle.
Franklin Co. sweeps Lanier
CARNESVILLE — The Longhorns inaugural season ended at 10-13 with a pair of losses at Franklin County in the Region 8-AAA Tournament on Wednesday.
In the opener, Hannah Coursey was 3-for-3, while Ciera Fackler had a hit and drove in a run and Meghan Kellet, Keisha Stone and Lauren Pettit all went 1-for-3. Kaylee Ramos (6-4) was the losing pitcher
In Game 2, Coursey had Lanier’s only hit of game. Stone (2-6) took the loss in the circle.
Collins Hill swept; finishes third
SUWANEE — Despite losses to North Gwinnett (25-23, 25-16) and Mill Creek (25-20, 25-17), Collins Hill team finished third in the Area 7-AAAA tournament.
Katherine Ahlswede led the Eagles with 26 assists and nine digs in the two matches and libero Sarah Stone had 21 digs. Kelly Karelson finished with 10 digs, four kills and three blocks, Caitlin Conner had eight kills, Erin Ensley had seven kills and nine digs and Carsen Popelka finished with five kills.
Peachtree Ridge finishes fourth
SUWANEE — The Lions (24-21) fell to Mill Creek 26-24, 25-15 in the consolation match at the Area 7-AAAAA Tournament on Wednesday at North Gwinnett, but still claimed the area’s No. 4 seed for the upcoming Class AAAAA state sectionals.
Lucy Riddle had 12 kills, four blocks, and eight digs to lead Peachtree Ridge, while Becca Meyer added three kills, a block and five digs and Kathleen Davis handed out 14 assists.
