HOSCHTON -- After blanking Mountain View 4-0 in its first game of the Region 7-AAAAA tournament on Tuesday at Mill Creek, Duluth knocked off Peachtree Ridge 9-1 to secure a spot in the Class AAAAA state playoffs. The Wildcats will play Mill Creek at 4 p.m. today for third place.
Jeanie Perrucci won her second game of the night, striking out nine while walking only one in the game against the Lions. She also excelled at the plate with a triple and four RBIs. Sam Metzler, Maggie Kooker and Cassie Kooker also each went 2-for-4 against the Lions.
Perrucci struck out eight and walked just one in seven innings as the Wildcats shut out Mountain View 4-0.
Elanna Worthy led the offense for Duluth (15-13) with a 2-for-3 day, while Perrucci went 1-for-2.
Mountain View finished the night with five hits, getting four from Taylor Miller and one from Sammie Daugherty.
Mill Creek 10, Peachtree Ridge 5
HOSCHTON -- Mill Creek clinched a spot in the Class AAAAA state tournament with a 10-5 win over Peachtree Ridge on Tuesday in the Region 7-AAAAA tournament at Mill Creek.
Chandler Griffin paced the offense for the Hawks (21-6) by going 2-for-4 with three RBIs. Nikki Sagermann and Brittany Bass each went 2-for-3 with two RBIs, while Erin Raeford had a hit and drove in two.
Caroline Wilson was the winning pitcher, delivering seven innings with five unearned runs on six hits. The Hawks will play Duluth today at 4 p.m. for the region's third seed.
Berkmar 15, Meadowcreek 5
LILBURN -- Berkmar topped Meadowcreek 15-5 on Tuesday in a non-region game.
Jasmine White pitched five innings with seven strikeouts for the win, while the offense was led by Michael Brown, who had a triple and five RBIs. The win bumped Berkmar's record up to 6-8.
Buford 7, GAC 2
ATLANTA -- Buford advanced to the finals of the Region 6-AA tournament with a 7-2 in over Greater Atlanta Christian on Tuesday at Lovett. Buford will play the GAC-Blessed Trinity winner Thursday at 6 p.m. for the region title.
Melissa Dickey went 52/3 innings for Buford in recording the win, allowing six hits and two walks with four strikeouts to improve to 11-3.
Karly Fullem pitched the final 12/3 innings for her third save of the year.
Fullem also had a double and an RBI, while Madyson Wynegar had two hits and three RBIs. Kallie Case also had a hit and two RBIs, while Kodi Ricketson doubled and scored twice.
Hebron 9, Social Circle 1
SOCIAL CIRCLE -- Hebron concluded its regular season with a 9-1 win over Social Circle on Tuesday.
Caylin Brooks struck out seven in four innings for the win, while Heather Felt pitched the final three innings and struck out six.
Annie Ranus went 2-for-4 with a double and home run for Hebron, while Brooke Crosby had two hits and two RBIs.
The Lions will start their postseason tournament at home at 1 p.m. on Friday against Eagle's Landing.
Rams wrap up No. 1 seed
LOGANVILLE -- Grayson beat both Dacula 23-25, 27-25, 25-19 and Mountain View 25-16, 25-12 on Tuesday to finish its regular season schedule, earning the Rams the top seed in the upcoming Area 8-AAAAA tournament.
Ana Gross had 17 digs, while Hannah Barney recorded 4.5 blocks in the win over the Falcons. Dallas Hasty added nine kills with Grace Basile added eight.
In the win over Mountain View, Kristi Cheesman tallied 13 digs, while Shenise Howard finished with nine assists and seven kills. The tournament begins at 5 p.m. Thursday at Parkview.
After its loss to Grayson, Dacula bounced back to edge Mountain View 25-14, 23-25, 25-18. Kimberly McIntyre had 20 kills for the Falcons (18-15, 4-3), while Avery Shead had 20 assists and 12 kills with Mindi Blythe adding 12 kills and 10 digs.
Brookwood ends regular season with two wins
LAWRENCEVILLE -- Brookwood concluded its regular season with a pair of sweeps on Tuesday, beating Archer 25-17, 25-13 and Shiloh 25-16, 25-21.
Erin Shelton led Brookwood (28-14, 6-1) with 12 kills, 10 digs and five aces, while Ashby
Addiss added six kills. Bethany Easom also had a solid night with 17 assists and six digs. Brookwood will enter the Area 8-AAAAA tournament as the No. 2 seed. The tournament begins Thursday night at Parkview.
Central splits, Parkview sweeps to end regular season
LILBURN -- Central Gwinnett earned a split on Tuesday night, nipping Berkmar in two tight games 26-24, 25-22 and falling to Parkview in three games 11-25, 29-27, 21-25.
Abbey Bridges led Central with 13 kills, 10 digs and three aces. Nia Hardy added nine kills, eight digs and four aces with Sara Futch adding six digs.
Parkview, which will enter the Area 8-AAAAA tournament as the No. 3 seed, won its second match of the night with a 25-15, 25-16 sweep of Berkmar. Top players for the Panthers (16-24, 6-1) were Kasey DeArmon (14 kills), Katie Carroll (28 assists, six kills, two aces), Sammi Bosler (eight aces) and Kelly Hayden (26 digs, three aces).
The area tournament will begin at 5 p.m. on Thursday at Parkview.
Collins Hill opens tourney with two wins
SUWANEE -- Collins Hill opened its Area 7-AAAAA tournament at North Gwinnett with two wins on Tuesday, knocking off Meadowcreek 25-8, 25-11 and Norcross 25-15, 18-25, 25-22.
Players of note for the Eagles were Caitlin Conner (nine kills, seven assists), T.C. Cobb (eight kills), Carsen Popelka (eight kills), Erin Ensley (10 digs, eight kills), Kelly Carelson (nine digs, seven kills), Katherine Ahlswede (41 assists), Liz Popoleski (14 digs) and Sarah Stone (11 digs).
The Eagles will play host North Gwinnett on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. in the second round.
Mill Creek, Peachtree Ridge advance
SUWANEE -- Mill Creek and Peachtree Ridge each advanced to the second round of the Area 7-AAAAA tournament on Tuesday. The two teams will play each other at 4:30 p.m. today at North Gwinnett.
Mill Creek made it to the second round with wins over Peachtree Ridge 25-20, 25-22 and Duluth 25-14, 25-12. Peachtree Ridge recovered from its loss to Mill Creek to oust Norcross in three games 19-25, 25-5, 25-19.
Leaders for Peachtree Ridge on the night were DeLaina Sarden with 30 kills, Lucy Riddle with 15 kills and 12 digs, Kathleen Davis with 33 assists and Lorin Greene with four kills and three assists.
Duluth went 1-2 in the tournament, losing to Norcross 25-17, 26-24 before beating Meadowcreek 25-22, 25-18. After opening with its win over Peachtree Ridge, Mill Creek fell to North 25-12, 25-15.
Hebron sweeps in tourney first round
NORCROSS -- Hebron came out strong on Tuesday in the first round of the Area 4-AA/A tournament at Greater Atlanta Christian, routing Avondale 25-0, 25-3 and edging Providence 27-25, 25-15. Hebron (35-5) will play host GAC on Thursday at 6 p.m. in the second round.
Elise Murray led Hebron with 12 kills and five blocks, while Eden Murray delivered 10 assists. Leader in kills was Maddi Roof with eight and Courtney Bishop with seven.
GAC sweeps, Providence splits in Area 4-AA/A first round
NORCROSS -- Greater Atlanta Christian swept Paideia 25-10, 25-10 and Buford 25-22, 25-19 in the first round of the Area 4-AA/A tournament on Tuesday at GAC, sending the Spartans against Hebron on Thursday in the tournament's second round.
Leaders for GAC (25-12) in kills were Janaya Simmons with 11, Morgan McKnight with 10 and Kenzie Hobbs with nine. Ali Cox led the team in digs with 17, while Rachel Waldrop had 36 assists.
Providence, which fell to Hebron 27-25, 25-15, rallied to keep its tournament hopes alive with a 25-23, 26-24 win over Decatur. Leading the Stars (21-14) were Maddie Jones (16 kills, four digs, three aces), Kaitlin Harper (nine kills, five blocks) and D'Anna Kester (29 assists, five aces).
Providence will travel to GAC on Thursday to play Paideia at 5 p.m. in the second round.
Buford stays alive
NORCROSS -- Buford split in its first day of action at the Area 4-AA touranment on Tuesday at Greater Atlanta Christian by beating Clarkston 25-8, 25-8 but fall to GAC 25-22, 25-19.
Maggie Roper had 14 kills and 10 digs for Buford, while Liz Darden had 15 digs. Nancy Mattox added seven kills, while Denee Badois served 21 points with 13 aces. Buford will play on Thursday at GAC in the second round.
Wesleyan starts area tournament strong
NORCROSS -- Wesleyan opened its Area 7-AA/A tournament with two solid wins on Tuesday, beating Mount Pisgah 25-3, 25-3 and Pinecrest Academy 25-5, 25-11.
Leaders for the Wolves (30-17) were Ashley Gentry with six aces, Grace Leah Baughn with 16 kills and 11 aces, Ansley Maughon with seven kills and two aces, Alana Broe with nine kills and two aces and Maggie Smith with 30 assists and six kills.
