HOSCHTON — Fourth-ranked North Gwinnett edged No. 3 Mill Creek 7-6 in a Region 7-AAAAA clash Friday.
Logan White picked up the win for the Bulldogs (20-6-1, 9-2). Alex McDavid had a single, a home run and three RBIs. Carolina Rogers was 3-for-4, Heather Maddox was 2-for-4 with an RBI and Miranda Strother was 2-for-4 with a double. For Mill Creek, Nikki Sagermann was 2-for-3 with a two-run homer. Chandler Griffin was also 2-for-3 and Shannon Griffin was 1-for-3 with an RBI. SOFTBALL GAC 12, Blessed Trinity 11 ATLANTA — Brianna Stewart gave herself the win with an RBI single in the ninth inning to give GAC a 12-11 win over Blessed Trinity to kick off the Region 6-AA tournament at Lovett on Friday. Stewart pitched the final five innings in a game the Spartans needed to rally three times during. GAC overcame deficits of four runs in the seventh, two runs in the eighth and four runs in the ninth. Consecutive doubles by Sierra Lawrence (2-for-4, three RBIs), Krista Gustafson and Taylor Endres keyed the final charge. Sarah Armstrong went 3-for-5 with a two-run double and two-run triple, Christine Young went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run and three runs scored and Mary Johnson scored three runs for GAC. Wesleyan earns No. 3 seed ATLANTA — Wesleyan split its games Friday night in the Region 5-A tournament, but did enough to earn a No. 3 seed from the region in the state tournament. The Wolves rolled over Galloway 17-0 in the first game thanks to a combined three-inning no-hitter turned in by Brittany Mitchell (1 IP) and Dacia Jones (2 IP, 2Ks). Caitlin Crabill (two RBIs) and Victoria DiSasi (three RBIs) each had two hits and scored two runs for Wesleyan. Wesleyan ended the day with a 4-3 loss to Mt. Pisgah. Mitchell took the loss, allowing six hits over six innings. CaraMia Tsirigos went and Jones each went 2-for-3 and Courtney O’Leary was 1-for-3 with an RBI. Lanier 16, Johnson 1 OAKWOOD — Lanier earned a No. 3 seed out of Region 3-A with a 16-1 drubbing of Johnson on Friday. The Longhorns’ Meghan Kellett tossed her second no-hitter of the season over five innings, walking one and striking out six. Holland Coursey (3-for-3), Ciera Fackler (3-for-4, double, two RBIs) and Amberly Hays (2-for-4, two RBIs) all turned in multiple hits in the game. VOLLEYBALL Parkview tops Blessed Trinity falls to McIntosh ROSWELL — Parkview swept host Blessed Trinity 25-22, 25-21 before McIntosh returned the favor 5-25, 16-25.
