NORCROSS — An early morning fire caused heavy damage to a Norcross home Tuesday, officials said.
Gwinnett County firefighters responded to the 5000 block of Bridgeport Way at 4:42 a.m. after neighbors called 911 to report flames coming through the two-story wood frame house, spokesman Capt. Tommy Rutledge said.
Upon arrival, firefighters found the second floor and attic engulfed in flames, fire “shooting through the roof over the main living space,” Rutledge said.
After initially battling the blaze from inside, they were forced out due to the flames and collapse conditions. In addition to heavy damage at the home, a car parked in the driveway was destroyed.
The cause of the fire was still under investigation, Rutledge said. The blaze was under control by 5:16 a.m.
Neighbors said the homeowners may have been out of town, Rutledge said.
