Emory Eastside tops off addition

SNELLVILLE — Emory Eastside Medical Center and Duke Realty held a topping out ceremony Monday, as the final beam was hoisted onto one of Emory Eastside’s newest additions.

The event was held to commemorate the major milestone toward completion of Emory Eastside’s third medical office building, which is scheduled to be completed in May.

“The growth is a very visual representation of the hospital’s success over the years,” Emory Eastside COO Dustin Greene said in a statement. “We are proud of our relationship with the community and we appreciate all of the support we have received for these expansion projects.”

The ceremony included placing a small cypress tree and an American flag on the top of the structure to symbolize growth and bring good luck. The final beam was signed by all attendees of the event before being placed in the building Monday afternoon.

The 60,000-square-foot medical office building — part of a larger master plan of expansions — will include a spine center, neurology, general surgery and endocrinology specialties.

Foundation for an emergency department expansion was poured in October. Phase I of that project is on track for completion by April, Greene said.

The hospital’s main lobby has already been remodeled, now housing the admissions department, a newly renovated human resources department and an “enhanced” visitor’s center, with plans for a coffee shop still in the works.

A new patient tower is still planned for the not-so-distant future.

“We look forward to growing as Gwinnett County grows,” Greene said.
