LAWRENCEVILLE — The Gwinnett County Police Department is once again being acknowledged for its hard work.

The organization received its sixth reaccreditation from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, as well as the group’s Meritorious Award and designation as part of its Flagship Agency Program.

“These awards are national recognition of the hard work and professionalism that are exhibited everyday by the fine men and women of our agency,” said Chief Charles M. Walters.

Gwinnett police first received accreditation in 1993. A team of assessors returned to the department earlier this year to examine its standards.

The Meritorious Award acknowledges the agency’s more than 15 years of accredited service, while the Flagship Agency designation was given for consecutively reaching a high standard.

“Gwinnett’s police department is one of the best in the nation, and the accreditation reviewers clearly agree,” County Administrator Glenn Stephens said. “The intense accreditation process examines law enforcement agencies from top to bottom, and I am extremely proud of our officers and command staff for exemplifying the highest in professionalism every day. This tremendous achievement means Gwinnett County residents have the best trained, professional, and dedicated police officers protecting them every day.”
