Gwinnett Daily Post
NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. — David de Kastrozza scored twice, including the game winner late in the second, to lead the South Carolina Stingrays over the Gwinnett Gladiators 4-3 on Friday night at the North Charleston Coliseum.
South Carolina (5-7-1) jumped all over the Gladiators (8-3-3) in the first period, taking a 3-0 lead on the back of two straight power-play goals to start the game.
Gwinnett responded in the second with a power-play of its own just 36 seconds in.
Mike Forney collected his third goal of the season on assists from Aaron Bendickson and Sam Roberts to get on the board.
The comeback continued when Will Colbert hammered in his second of the season on a rebound in front to make it 3-2 just a few minutes later at 3:10.
The Ian McKenzie buried a fantastic feed from Dan Kissel on the far post to tie the game 3-3 at 10:50.
But South Carolina came back at 15:08, as de Kastrozza tallied his second of the night and third of his rookie season to make it 4-3 at the end of two periods.
Gwinnett had several chances late on a 5-on-3 in the third to draw even, but couldn’t solve Todd Ford.
Ford stopped 25 of 28 shots, while Chris Carrozzi had 20 saves in a losing effort.
Forney paced the offense with a goal and an assist, while Bendickson had an assist and a third-period goal overturned by an offsides call in his return to the Gladiators lineup after an AHL callup.
