NORCROSS — Several children were taken to the hospital with minor injuries Friday afternoon after police say a pregnant woman hit their Gwinnett County school bus head on.
The driver of the passenger car was near the intersection of Peachtree Corners Circle and Holcomb Bridge Road in Norcross when she “crossed into the oncoming lanes of traffic” and struck the fully loaded bus at 2:25 p.m., Gwinnett police spokesman Cpl. Jake Smith said.
Six of the children on the bus — which was serving Norcross High School — were taken to a nearby hospital with minor injuries.
“Several of the remaining children were released to their parents at the scene,” Smith said. “An empty bus picked up the remaining children and transported them to their homes.”
The pregnant driver, cited for failure to maintain lane, was also taken to the hospital with injuries. There were no apparent complications with the woman’s unborn child Friday, Smith said.
Drugs and alcohol were not believed to be a factor in the accident.
