LAWRENCEVILLE — Now that all residents of unincorporated Gwinnett can recycle at the curb, the county is giving them another opportunity to recycle even more.
Officials will celebrate America Recycles Day with a shredding event at Coolray Field on Saturday.
• What: America Recycles Day event
• When: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday
• Where: Coolray Field, 2500 Buford Drive, Lawrenceville
The celebration includes kids activities, face painting and touch-a-truck. In addition to shredding papers, people can recycle electronics and decorate a recycle bin to enter into a contest.
Scheduled from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., workers will also collect canned foods to fill local Salvation Army shelves.
“Every year, Americans generate more than 4.5 pounds of solid waste per person per day,” said Casey Snyder, director of the government’s solid waste division. “This event emphasizes the importance of environmental sustainability for the future of Gwinnett County.”
