LAWRENCEVILLE — A 23-year-old Valdosta man faces vehicular homicide and other charges after police say he caused a Sunday afternoon wreck that killed a Suwanee man.
Following the 3:17 p.m. crash on Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road, James Griffin was arrested at Gwinnett Medical Center on charges of vehicular homicide, reckless driving and failure to maintain lane, police said. The crash killed Najee Griffin, 19, of Suwanee. Police said James Griffin was driving southbound on Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road when he began to swerve between lanes, lost control, and became airborne as he crossed into oncoming traffic at Taylor Road. James Griffin’s vehicle landed on the victim’s, then kept going until it struck an electrical pole at the southeast corner of the intersection, said Gwinnett police spokesman Cpl. Edwin Ritter. Najee Griffin, who was driving alone, died at the scene, Ritter said. James Griffin was transported to Gwinnett Medical Center in Lawrenceville with minor injuries. A passenger in his vehicle, Michael Sweeney, of Alpharetta, was not seriously injured, Ritter said. An investigation continues, Ritter said.More like this story
