Gladiators fall to Cincinnati in shootout

CINCINNATI, Ohio — The Gladiators squandered two third-period leads in a 4-3 shootout loss to the Cincinnati Cyclones on Saturday night at the US Bank Arena.

After a scoreless first, former Gladiator Scott Lehman put the Cyclones on top at the 11:01 mark in the second, beating Chris Carrozzi with a quick wrister.

The Gladiators (8-2-3) evened things up early in the third as Pat Galivan and Mike Forney set up Andy Brandt on the power play at the 3:22 mark.

Gwinnett took the lead a little more than 10 minutes later as Galivan scored his third goal in two days with assists to Forney and Brandt.

Cincinnati answered only 20 seconds later when a Gladiator defensive zone turnover led to Dylan Hunter’s third of the season to tie the game at 2.

At 16:19 Gwinnett again took the lead, as Dan Kissel fired a wrist shot under the glove of goaltender Marc Chevrie.

Cincinnati tied the game yet again with just 2:10 left. Dustin Sproat scored his first goal of the season on a rebound in front of the net.

Chevrie shut down Gwinnett in the shootout, while Barrett Ehgoetz managed to beat Carrozzi to seal a 4-3 Cincinnati win.

The Cyclones have now won four in a row after going winless in seven straight. Gwinnett had a three-game winning streak snapped.
